Reading some posts, I get the impression some of my fellow TBNers mayhaps be at their limit with shoveling, blading, blowing, or otherwise dealing with the seasonal white stuff.

Been about 5 1/2 weeks since my knee replacement and time to get back on the tractor. Mowed for about 3 hours today with my flail mounted to my DX35. So here are a few pics taken from a variety of perspectives after today's work. Tomorrow's another day...

But what are you paying for diesel? Just kidding.

Your place looks amazing. I love that shade of green. For whatever reason, it makes me think of Ireland and Leprechaun's.

Thanks for sharing,
Eddie

You really do have a cruel streak, ya know!!! lol!!! I'd like to get to Hawaii some day. Looks very nice. I'd just like to see the sun sometimes. Winter in Michigan means not seeing it for days at a time.

Thanks guys,
Makana Mai Ka Lani - Gifts from Heaven That's what we named the place when we found it as we felt really blessed.

Today I got in another couple hours, mowed the back areas and the areas outside the pig fence. Never been able to mow the whole property, likely never will. I do like to keep a swarth 15-20ft wide mowed around the perimeter of the 21 acres and the 2 cane roads that cross the property. Used to drive our wrangler around it when we had it. Someday maybe a gator or golfcart...

Almost surprising how green as we haven't had 9 inches of rain since New Years, still in drought mode. Actually, I hadn't mowed since Dec and in some areas could easily gone another week or so. What you see in the pics is all formerly sugarcane land that was in pasture when we bought. Except for smoothing out the pig damage with the tiller last year all I've done it mow, mow, mow.

As for diesel... a bit curious myself. I stocked up just before my surgery, but will need to get more in next week or so. Besides the tractors, my 24kw genset is diesel, about 190 gallons last year. There was a TV report this week about the rising cost and potential effect on our economy. Price was $4.05 in the report on the island of Oahu, so we'd be .10 or more here. :(

300Uguy - I was born and raised in Maine, can relate.

I heard once that Columbus Ohio has more cloudy days that Seattle. :( Thanks for the pics though. Went to Hawaii for vacation once we went snorkling in the "Blue Hole." I would definitely like to do that again. Very Cool.

Wow, you really know how to hurt a guy!:laughing:

Right now we're experiencing a heat wave... only got down to about 28 overnight, supposed to get up over 30 today- yipee! (But, still a lot better than below zero!)

I've read something like that also. I think they get just as much sunshine, its just when its cloudy in Seattle, its more likely to rain. In the midwest, we get a lot cloudy days but no rain.

Those pictures are killing me, but I do like them, thanks for posting them. I'd love to see a couple more of your house up closer.

Nice pics. Mahalo for sharing pics of your building process.... did you do most of the work yourself? Love the Big Island. My spouse is from Oahu but loves it here in CT because of the seasons. Many years ago I needed to meet a Sea Grant rep near Kamuela for a skiff to use in Kealakekua Bay and it was snowing there. When I got down to the bay it was low 80s again and sunny. Good luck on your recovery and aloha.....Gary

Aloha Gary

Was always curious as to your signon. Where on Oahu? Lived Ewa Beach late 79-81. Were in Kamuela last week, our respite on Costco run.

Yes, we designed it and did most of the work ourselves - owner builders.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I like it. Looks you have pretty good garage space, have a nice pool, and I'm not sure, the pics don't show it that well, but it looks like you have a fantastic view. This time of the year, it looks very nice. It got up to 50 degrees here today, and thats the warmest its been in several weeks and we still have snow on the ground.

I looked in your album a little bit, and it does look like a great view. I don't see where you own a snowblower yet? Better pick one up soon, you never know when the weather will turn cold.:D

Thanks for the photos - glad to hear the knee is doing well. Temp was up to about 40F here today and is forecast for about -4F tonight with 10 to 15 mph winds. I'm ready for spring.

Beautiful place. Wife and I are heading to Oahu on the 26th of this month. Our first trip there. Been staring out the window at piles of snow counting the days.

Nice pics of your property! The name of your property caught my eye as my wife's guide dog is named "Makana". She"s a curly coat blond Lab and truely is a gift that has allowed my wife to become more independent. Glad the knee is doing well, Mike.

Hi David - My wife's family is from Palolo and Wahiawa. My daughter and son in law are in Chinatown.....he's five-oh. I lived in Manoa, Makiki, and Lanikai from 76 to 81. We go back once or twice a year. When you designed your home did you consider ICFs? I like your layout......Aloha, Gary

Sodamo. Beautiful place! Thanks for inviting everyone on TBN to come to your place in the winter! I'm sure it's going to be a lot of work, so on behalf of all of us, I want to say thank you!

We should all be there by the end of the month!!

Dibs on the guesthouse!

See you soon! :D

Boy I'm glad I'm not there. Look at the flag! That wind must be pretty bad. What's the wind chill there? :)
