Reading this thread is fun, here in western MO. My mailing address is Peculiar, MO. About 50 miles or so is a town called tightwad, just think to have a check with the address on the check being tightwad.

When my wife and I went through Missouri, we passed the town of Roach. I wanted to turn off and spend the night, but my wife was afraid to stay at the "Roach Motel", and wouldn't let me investigate to see if they even had one. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif.

...and I don't know how this thread has gone so long without someone mentioning Cut 'n Shoot, Texas. Seems two feuding factions showed up in church one Sunday ready to go to war and carrying their guns and knives./w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif That's how the town got its name.

We surely can't leave out those special Amish places in Pennsylvania. A couple that come to mind are Bird in Hand, and Intercourse. There are a bunch of others.

Over in the next county, I considered buying a place around Gun Barrel City, TX, (don't know how it got it's name) but bought a little farther west and usually just say I'm from Frost, TX (sure wasn't named for the weather), because that's where my mail comes from, but I actually live in Brushie Prairie, TX (and one quick look makes it obvious how it got its name).

Hey Bird, haven't seen you around in awhile and I was beginning to be a little concerned. I checked over in the 'bota area and saw you were posting there, so I figured you were okay. Of course, if you were on vacation I'd want to see the pictures. Did you get any of the tropical rain?

JimI, we just made a fast trip to my wife's family reunion in West Virginia; quite possibly the last chance she'll have to get together with her 93 year old mother, her sister, 5 brothers, and all their spouses at one time. We were only gone 5 nights, but racked up 2700 miles on her car, so when we got back I was behind on air tool repairs, car maintenance, mowing, garden harvesting, etc. And the only pictures we made were of a big family./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif We didn't get a drop of that tropical rain this far north, but that little front that came down from the north brought us a little over an inch early yesterday morning (and it was much needed, too).

This must be my week to be psychic. I was just guessing you were out of town. ...and I was jus' bustin' on ya' about the pictures./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I got an inch of rain in Sunset, TX at my "farm" and about the same in Grand Prairie, TX when the front came through. A lot of folks got some pretty high wind, but I don't even have any small limbs down in either place. All-in-all I'd call that an excellent rain event./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Amen! We didn't have any wind to amount to anything either.
