I set up the internet dialup on my wife's PC with WIN98 and Microsoft Explorer... now the pictures load/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Only problem is that it has one of tose cheap WINModems, so I can only connect at 24k /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif.

Anyhow, great job on the toolbox.

Thanks for the tip on the filename spaces Harv. I'll remember that in the future. I guess I'm what you would call a tool junkie. I've been collecting tools for over 30 years. My daughter remarked after Christmas; "How can there possibly be more tools that you don't already have?". Of course there are plenty. As for the lessons, I'm more of a "jump in and do it" kind of guy. I scan the instructions, grab some scrap metal, and start welding. After about 10 minutes of practice, I welded what I set out to do. But, practice sure helps! Mig welders are pretty easy to use. I had a stick welder, gave it away. I've used TIG (planning to buy one someday). Mig is the best overall general purpose machine for home use. Make sure you get one with the gas shield. The other type, flux core wire, doesn't work as well. The next problem is how to cut the metal to weld. I have an oxy/acy torch setup but that's not enough. I bought a horizontal bandsaw from Harbor Freight a couple years ago. I'm generally not one to purchase cheap tools. I compared several saws and the Harbor Freight one was identical to one across the street at Tool Mart with the Rockwell Delta brand name. The only difference was $179 versus $299. I've been very happy with my cheap one, I've cut many many feet of steel with it.

Ok, I've gotta go paint my new tool box Orange.

MarkV, In an earlier post I recommended to Harv that he go with MIG. I have a Lincoln SP130T. It does a lot more than I need one to do and I use it a lot. I build hot rods and restore cars for fun. The setup cost me about $600 if I recall correctly. Hope the box setup works for you too. You could, of course, bolt everything together. I just welded it beacuse it's easier and faster (and more permenant).

Bird, I reckon that it's a lot less work to do the tool box that to walk all over 12 acres looking for my lost chain and strap, AGAIN! And a lot more fun too!

Twinkletoes, I guess I called those little pieces of angle "feet", maybe legs would have been more appropriate. Lets see....shipping.....hmmmm, gotta find a source of ammo boxes first!

Sorry Mark, I'll redo the post tonight to eliminate the spaces.

Larry,

I was impressed enough with your set up to take a look at how I might do the same, but Kubota beat me to the space, on the B21 they hang the 3PH hardware in that location so no cigar.
I do have a Lincoln stick welder that has served me well for many years, so I should be able to figure out something.
I planned on joining the twentieth century by up grading to a Mig or Tig but to late./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Well Twinkletoes, as they say, necessity is the mother of invention. I've been thinking about a tool box for months. Finally losing my best chain drove me to do something about it. You'll find a place to put one. Just have to have some imagination on how to mount it. Theres not much open space on these compact tractors.

By the way, there is nothing wrong with stick welders. Most of the ships in the world are stuck together with stick welders. But for begineers, MIG is much easier to learn, and much easier to get a good weld with (e.g. good penetration).

Larry, even my slow modem did the post fast enough.. (My modem is fast but we live so far out in the sticks that the copper lines with the noise on it will not handle much)..... But I would paint the box black, I think that black trim on the orange looks best...

Good point on the paint Jag. Actually, I bought both official Kubota orange and dark gray paint today, I think I'll paint it dark Gray to have a little contrast.
