Two quarts every 200 miles and no smoke and no leaks.? Where in the **** is it going? The symptoms scream head gasket but oil leaking into a pressurized cooling system is unusual. Its usually the other way.

I like the name Puddles. That is gonna stick.

Oh, and to top this all off we returned with two nice Canadian colds....{sniff}

It is a puzzle...

a wee bit of smoke when you let up on the throttle....just a puff
no oil in the rad fluid
very small rear main seal leak
left valve cover is leaking a bit
oil pan is leaking a bit
rev up to 2500, hold for 10 min leaves 5-6 drops of oil on the ground

Here is my guess based on what I hear and feel....it's been running on 7 cylinders. A compression check is the first order of business.

350, rear cylinder on passenger side gets tired 1st usually. #8 for you mechanic types.

Doesn't sound good, but I've seen broken rockers, flat cam lobes. How hot did it get when coolant pump let go?

Sadly I believe a lot of decent 350s were "put down" for cash as clunkers. Wonder if the previous seller had done something to mask symptoms for a bit?

Not hot at all, never overheated...it was around 11F out(and the Wp went 500 miles after it started using oil). The owner told me it burned a quart every 4-500 miles. After looking under it and seeing all the different leaks I thought maybe it was an external leak issue. I am dying to dig into it and find out where it's all going. If it needs a total re-build so be it, my neighbor just happens to be a pretty darn good engine builder. I just have to figure out how the get the thing out, engines in vans must have been installed with the use of a shoehorn.

The good news is 350 parts are common and cheap. Probably the best engine to rebuild if you have to.

It may be leaking more oil than you think externally under load.

Mystery roof drips and vanishing van oil...........maybe I have slipped into the Vortex:laughing:

Ive had bad PCV valves cause excess oil use, and not smoke. This is because the oil is atomized and distributed to all cylinders. But like you said, you have a miss also, check engine vacuum first, compression test and then a cylinder leakdown test. The engine comes out the front, remove grill, radiator, and front support. Sounds like anouther winter project.:D
