Both, when we get heavy rain I have a lot of run off in that area. I need to extend the dry creek another 30' but this will be done in the fall. It has worked great with the water following the river rock. I was a little worried about the mulch washing into the rock, thats why I stopped at the point I did. But so far all is good and no washing.

Thanks for the kind words.
I used landscape fabric under the rock. I bought Preen 4' x 200' at Sams Club for $29.00 a roll. This is a good fabric, thicker than most weed block I have used in the past. The water will soak through and it is thick enough the rock did not cut it. I found the same product on sale at HD for $39.00 a roll, so I think I got a good buy at Sams. I have a couple of extra rolls to finish the project.
We had a place close to the house that due to the slope on that side we had to cut a "V" to keep water away from the basement. On the other side of the bridge is where I will put some raised beds, herb garden and greenhouse. This project is going to take a while to complete
Thanks, that's good info. My brother-in-law just got a similar buy at Costco on the fabric so that is what I'll do.
