The Man in black

I have to agree that bad metal lacks melody, rhythm, taste, you name it. But Metallica elevates it to fine art. If you don't believe me listen to their last album titled S&M. It was recorded with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and it is fantastic. The melody is there, it is just complex and there may be more than one to a tune. However, I am open to the simplistic interpretation that my desire to continue listening to this stuff is just unreleased teenage angst on my part./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Now that is funny. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif That's what I like about this forum, everyone has a sense of humor. I have to point out, though that Bevis (or is it Butthead) is wearing black!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Fishman,

I don't listen to Metallica much but I play some of their older stuff on the guitar. It's a good stress reliever to sit down and crank out some of that stuff and other older bands too. My initial goal was to learn how to play like Pat Metheny but you have to learn to crawl before you can walk and run. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Just when you get to thinking you know something no one else knows, ya find out they know more./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

My answer was "Protective Equipment Specialist". When I was stationed at Chanute AFB the instructors identified Johnny as the most famous person to go thru that school. I vaguely remember a picture hanging in the hall. It's a short school and the chance that he switched may explain the difference. You don't suppose the instructor were shucking us?

Do you know what rank he held when he got out?

Nope, but I do know what rank he started "Airman". /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I'd guess maybe Johnny and the service didn't see eye to eye and he was discharged "Airman 1st Class".

Allen,

Cash was promoted to Staff Sergeant just before he was discharged in attempt to get him to reup. In his bio Cash says once the Air Force discovered his aptitude, they trained him and assigned him to Security Service. From there he says it was either Germany or Adak Island in the Aleutians. To quote the book "Frozen everything or food and Frauliens? I chose Landsburg." The only other placed mentioned was Lackland AFB where he says he did basic training.

Now my mother's brother was in the Air Force for 20 yrs (he was on my case all the time during my Rock n' Roll days in the 70's) but I wasn't so I have no idea what a Protective Equipment Specialist is trained to do, if Radio Intercept Operator is an actual job description, or where Chanute AFB is.

Come on try one more. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Did CASH get drafted or did he voluntarily enlist?

Never did know when to quit, but I'm shooting for partial credit./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

My guess:
The Air Force didn't have a draft, he voluntarily enlisted in the Air Force. He did this after being drafted into the Army and before he had to report.

You betcha. No need to read any more into it than ya got to. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

The story goes like this. After a hitchhiking North and working 3 weeks in a Michigan factory he bailed out and went home. Took a job in a margarine plant cleaning tanks as he described it "working for low money in filth beyond belief and heat I'd never imagined possible. After that a government paycheck and clean blue uniform looked pretty good. I enlisted for a four year hitch."
