Artisan,
I brought one a couple of weeks ago with video capability in order to see portions or our land too thick to walk through. Also to just look around.

Still learning how to use it, but really nice. Too windy to effectively use it at height. They are fun!

What size did you get?

We got the Syma Blackhawk helicopter for our grandson for Christmas. He also got an AirHog. The AirHog was about $70 and it is a handfull to operate. The Syma is extremely easy to operate. If you go to Amazon.com and put in RC Helicopter in their search box, you'll see all of Syma's line of copters. Read the reviews to find out which is best. GREAT FUN! Amazon also carries repair parts if you ever need them. I highly recommend the Syma.

Just when I was feeling good about flying ... you brought me back to reality !!! It is easy and its a lot of fun. I've decided to advance in stages from this one ... to one I can use outdoors. I like the camera idea !!!!

I have one in an Apache model. Even has LED flashing lights. You are right, a lot of fun for 7 minutes. It will work outdoors BUT there has to NO wind at all. And I do mess with the cat but she is not afraid of it and goes after it until the propeller smacks her in the head.

It may be smaller, cheaper models or brands, but they've been selling those things at kiosks in the Grapevine Mills Outlet Mall for a long time. They do look like fun, but I haven't paid any attention to the prices.

BlueRiver,

I brought the LT-712 with gyro and camera via Amazon. It is a great little helicopter which I paid about $76 and it arrived in good time and shape.

Here is one video of the LT-712. The music drove me "nuts" so I went to mute. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9AXuIUUF5s]Egofly LT-712 Hawkspy 3CH RC Helicopter RTF w/ Built-in Gyro, Spy Camera @ RC-Fever.com - YouTube[/ame]

It is a starter and is allowing me to learn. It is fun and I am 64.

We have 112 acres and there are times I simply can not see. Plus there are times I would like not to be seen as when a bear is around. Then there are ATVs.

This is good for checking out the higher trees as the wife will not let me climb. I have a camcam video device that I can put the memory stick in for viewing at the land or I take the stick home and view on the computer.

This also allows me to do things like checking out our two story plus home roof without climbing. Wind does effect it.

Jim, what is the maximum height you have flown? The Syma indoor copters all use IR light to control them. I'm curious about the LT-712's ability to "see" the remote and the maximum control range. If it is RC instead of IR, it would probably have very good range.

Like the park flyer models of lightweight RC airplanes, I'd imagine a 5 mph breeze is about maximum for good control. I'd love to get a copter like the LT-712, but I'd have to fly it a bunch before I'd get confident enough to fly it out over my lake.:)
