TOL1488, you are saying the seat-belts retract like in a car ?

No just that "retractable seatbelts stop retracting" like the ones on my old golf cart did. Just about a week out of warranty... pulled out enough to belt in and they didn't tighten again until I got new ones (actually one lasted about two months longer than the other)

Re: the new 2520 - a current JD owner\'s take....

As long as we are putting together our wish list for JD, I'll add a few things I've discovered in my first 20 hours...

Before I do, I will tell all of you looking at the 2520 that as a mowing machine that will also do chores, I don't think you can beat this set-up. I agree with all of the points made already about weight and mowing and best-suited purposes for this tractor.

Even though they wanted a lighter tractor, would it have killed them to make this just a bit larger?

The 62D On-ramp will actually hit the rear tires when lifted by the 3pt carrying brackets. I'm thinking about an I-match just to get a few extra inches.

The backhoe and mower deck can't cohabitate on the tractor.

The backhoe platform clears the rear tires by less than 2". The backhoe hydraulic lines could use a few more inches in length to allow you to set the backhoe down without keeping the tractor within inches of the now-detached backhoe. And I would love to have the 3pt pick-up feature that the 447, 47 and 48 backhoes have with the 3x20 and 4x20 series.

I know that there are sacrifices to keep the weight a half-ton lighter than the 3x20's, but these are definite areas of improvement.

I will still gladly recommend this machine to anyone who needs to mow. Backhoe users looking to deforest property should upgrade to the 3000's. I will be doing some minor backhoe work initially, and then mostly mowing 4ac.

Re: the new 2520 - a current JD owner\'s take....

Matthew is making exactly the point I expressed as a concern as well. The 2520, although a fine machine that is really well made and nice in many ways, STILL has some design and option flaws that make it not as much of a deal as the 3000's. As someone who was wanting a 4115 two years ago, I can say although the 2520 marks an upgrade over that machine, it is not a smaller 3000 series. For the life of me, I cannot figure why JD does not go ahead and offer some of the bigger tractor features in this package. Three ranges (perhap one as a creeper range), a little better hydraulic flow, open platform operator station and better attachment compatability for concommitant use and tilt steering/true scissor style or air ride seat option to name a few. If you want these features and are willing to pay a couple thousand more and lose a little manuverability, you get a 3120, but to me that should not be so.

Re: the new 2520 - a current JD owner\'s take....

Does anybody have concerns about the way the hydraulic lines to the loader hang down? Might they inadvertantly get hung up on downed branches/scrub if doing some work in wooded areas? Thanks.

Re: the new 2520 - a current JD owner\'s take....

My 3320 has loader lines that hang down on the right. The other day I took some heavy duty zip ties, the big and thick ones, and did a better job of tieing them up correctly. I was mor concerned with the lines hitting the front left tire than brush but same concern nonetheless. Originally there was some plastic strap that was used but it broke on my setup. All fixed up now though.

I also went back and redid the sheath loom ends that protect the lines. I folded them under and weaved a zip tie through them to keep the end from coming unraveled.
