If Bigpete ever drove a Lightning, he'd know that the Lightning would pass the Tundra so fast the it would suck the paint off it.

My wife's Ranger Edge with the 4.0 SOHC V6 would suck the paint off the Tundra too. Of course, the motor in the Ranger is care of Ford SVO, Dearborn. My brother-in-law got her truck before she did and the boys in Dearborn spent some of their "spare" time on it!!

It's the 1st Ranger I ever drove that will light up the tires in 4WD and bury the clock on a freeway on ramp and it has a 120 clock!!

Ford even threw in an extended warranty just to show their faith in the drivetrain.

I'm with you Daryl. Toyota doesn't have a dang thing that keep up with a Lightning. There is no sport truck out there that can touch it. I have nothing against a Toyota but please don't even try to compare the best sport truck Toyota has with a Lightning. Heck I even have a little 4wd Toyota that we run around the ranches on but there's nothing like the Lightning.

Since the gauntlet is passing back and forth, I'll throw a couple of stats at you from a QUICK internet search:

The 2003 tundra has a spec of 0-60 in 7.5 seconds 8 seconds in a second review). I can't find any current specs on the lightning, but the 2000 model was pulling 0-60 in 7.2 and up to 8 in a second review. Don't take these for more than what they are--a quick search. However, you guys clearly haven't driven a new Tundra or even looked at the specs. Doc, you're still thinking about your "Little" Toyota and the Tundra is not that truck. Yup, just found a little more. Clearly the Lightning is the fastest truck on the street with the specialty XVT Lighning turning in less than 6 second 0-60. I suppose I could get my daughter to her 4th grade open house a little faster. Which is the second quickest 0-60 according to Motortrend magazine? Wanna' guess?

I can't imagine buying a pick-up to race. Just keeping things honest on the Tundra topic.

You better throw out your search engine!

Here's my figures and references...lets see yours. These are the first things that came up in my search, in the order they came in. Iskippednothing. I could keep cutting and pasting but I am getting tired. The lower figures are from a couple of model years ago when it was about 40 less HP and foot lbs. of torque.

The bottomline is that there has never been a SVT Lightning that turned in times as slow as 7.2+ seconds. Unless.... maybe some Tundra driver was doing the test and backed off after he got nervous /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The truck makes 380 HP and 450 lbs. of torque, think about it.

Yeah, sorry, I left those out--they broke too.

The Lightening is similar to my friends Harley truck. It is very fast and cost a lot more than my Tundra and if it is crashed into something he might not walk away, I likely will. Also, the Tundra is available with a Supercharged engine and dual exhaust--it too is very fast. I doubt it is as fast as the Lightening but that is kinda dumb truck in a way. I guess one bag of mulch would probably sag it.
As to the acceleration tests, the Tundra aquits itself well and so far, what few have irked me enough that I did not want to be passed, they didn't pass me and some of them said Ford on the hood. I have another friend with a short bed, souped up 350 Chevy 2WD, in an all out race from a standing start he was at the most 3 lengths ahead of me at about 80MPH. My truck is 4WD and considerably heavier. Bring on your Ford F150, I seen them go in my mirror more than once--they get all red faced too. As to the Lightening, it don't look like it would get down a dirt road very good--what are those chrome things on the side for, maybe I will challenge it up the rock wall in Moab.
While you guys are high fiving each other and arse slapping and congratulating each other on how dumb import buyers are, just remember, you are driving the import /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif, I am driving an American made truck /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.
Like bigpete said, the Tundra is an excellent truck for real world use of typical people. I ain't a construction crew, don't use my truck for work. The Ford F150 is a great truck for work---next.
Oh, since I believe Yamaha actually designed the Lexus engine and the Tundra engine is based on that engine and Toyota FAA certified that engine for aircraft use in an admittedly highly modified aircraft specific version that had comparable power and reliability to the Pratt PT6 gas turbine I am absolutely POSITIVE that if they wanted to the Lightening would be TOAST /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. The Lexus engine is like a baby compare to the long developed and mature push rod engines in the Fords and Chevies. It has much development room to grow and much power to be tapped. Now those Dodge Ram numbers surely are not for the Hemi !! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I have a short bed 1500 reg cab that will wipe those rite off the screen /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif With the new Dodge viper Truck kicking out 500 HP I doubt the lllllightning is the fastest on the road anymore. You couldn't get me to take either one. I thought we were talkin REAL trucks. That excludes, at least for my $$$ all toy ota s and all 2wd. The Chev has push rods. The Ford doesn't have push rods and hasn't for a while. It is not a old tech engine like you seem to think. It is a overhead cam engine.
