No pissing, just a couple of opinions. One misguided one, and several correct ones.

Don't want to incite more flames, but I always found it ironic and humorous that the first step many people recommend to strip off old sealants/waxes before applying new ones is a "Dawn wash" using that dish soap. It will strip off most anything you have put on the finish. So you'll often see instructions that both extol the value of fancy waxes and sealants and also tell a simple effective way to defeat them, all within one paragraph. Whether it's for humor or practical reasons, remember that your fancy sealants and waxes can be completely destroyed by a humble dish soap.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that you guys wash your trucks....

But you wax them too???

:D

Ok, in all seriousness, I take my truck in to the auto drive through wash a few times a year. Try to go every other tank fill in the winter time, mostly to just power wash the salt spray off of the underside. I always select the wash with the spray on wax/sealer at the end, but don't know if it matters or not. My truck is 5 years old, and has spent every single day of it's life outside, never even parked under a carport. Paint looks fine, shiney everywhere, no fading, no dull spots, nada.

I wash the car and trucks once a year if they need it or not, will once in a while take the power washer and knock the mud off the wheels and under carriage if it has been wet, we are on 6 miles of dirt road,

Back where I grew up we called spotless, jacked-up trucks "Pavement Princesses" because they usually never saw a dirt road in their entire life. Kudos to you if ya want to do it but I've got enough things going on in my life that I don't have time for it.

Here in the PNW, anyone trying to keep a spotless truck/car is in for a world of frustration. I wash 2-3 times a year and that's usually enough to keep the paint in reasonable condition.

Just going down the drive in WA is problematic... dirt and gravel.

Although, once reaching the blacktop the roads are much cleaner than California...

A lot of my cars have been outside for 30+ years in California... the paint is starting to go and on the clearcoats sooner.

I don't often wax but I like a clean windshield and it is often just as easy to wash when I clean the windows.

I'm with you Slim... My 2006 F150 has never been inside. I too, run it through a car wash a few times a year. Might powerwash it once a year to get the crap out of the cracks and seams. Paint still looks good. I hate hand washing and waxing but have always appreciated a fine car that has exceptional paint/finish and shine. But I don't show off my cars... they are just vehicles.

My dad calls them "McDonald's Trucks" because they seem to only be used for showing off while going through the drive-thru lane.

Try waxing a Fire Engine.... Lot of area to wax. It is really bad after a tanker retardant drop. That stuff is a mess wot wash. It can really ruin a paint job if not removed.

Good Afternoon Robert,

You are correct about that sir ! I was an engineer at our local volunteer FD for a couple of years and getting those trucks
ready for the Memorial Parades was tough on the arms ! :)
