For me it was my 1999 F-150 XLT, Regular Cab, Short Bed Step Side, 4x4, 5.4L with 4.10 gears.

Loved that truck. It was a stump puller with the 4.10 gears and love the short combo of the regular cab and short step side bed. It was silver with grey cloth. Nothing real fancy, power locks, power windows, cd changer, AC, cruise, sliding rear window, automatic. Just a good truck.

I have looked long and hard to find one like it but all I find are 3.55 gears or 4.6L motors.

Funny thing is the best two features I liked were the front bumper and exhaust. Fords front bumper for a few years had 2 little points that sticked out slightly and the exhaust exited before the right rear wheel instead of behind of it.

Traded it on a new 2001 Super Crew Lariat 4x4, 5.4L with 3.73's. It was a more loaded truck and towed a little better due to the long wheel base but just did not stack up to that 99.

Here's a beauty. This thang would move some snow.. 302 V8.. 5/8's plate in the back for weight.. chains on all 4 corners.

I'm :laughing::laughing: at the plywood fender!!!

Priceless!

It would buff out!

PS - Is it available?

Not a truck or tractor.

Around 1974 I traded even up a beautiful yellow '64 Chev Impala convertible with a 409 (but only a two speed Powerglide) for a '66 Mercury Comet 6 banger. It was in the midst of the OPEC embargo and it seemed like a good trade because the 409 was only getting about 5 mpg and was a real dog. I did my own tuneups, etc. and just couldn't get the mileage up. I later ran into the guy with whom I had made the trade. He also did his own work and didn't figure the problem out until one night he raised the hood and it looked like sparklers on the engine. Worn out spark plug wires. he replaced them, took it out for a test and blew out both mufflers. I did drive the Comet for a good five years so maybe it was a good trade.

Frank,

My lil' brother had an IH Scout around he same time as I had my Bronco. I almost bought an IH 4x4 TravelAll (surburban type) but ended up with a 4 door Jeep Wagoneer 4x4 (I seem to recall rebuilding one head on the 390 and selling it).

And I'm always up at 5am every day. Some days earlier... :D

David

If you look real hard I have an 81 Bronco parked back there, shes waiting on tranny rebuild,4in.lift,warn lockers,35in.tires, and a sweet small block 302 5040&tiller.jpg

My '83 GMC Jimmy was nothing special but ran solid and was the first truck I bought on my own. It is currently on my wife's finger as I sold it for a ring. As much as I miss the truck I traded up for sure.

Also had a 94 chevy half that I traded for 5k on the current z71 burban I own. We were about to move to a new city/job and didn't have the room for it. If I would have know 3 short years later we would buy 60 acres I would never have sold.

Hindsight....

Once out of college I bought a 1969 GTO. Really enjoyed that car, was dark green with a black vinyl roof, had a big Hurst shifter, it could fly.
Wish I still had it.

In 1972, I bought a 1953 Chevrolet PU - 3 speed on the column, starter on the floorboard. I bought it for $300.00, used and drove it for 6 years and sold it for $1200.00. At times the linkage would hang up going into second gear. Then I would reach underneath and use the trusty old Ping hammer. If seems that it only did this while I was driving in bad weather. :D

The plywood is actually part of a truss system. The body collapsed over the frame, making the clutch inoperable. I wedged a couple of 8' 2x4's onto the tranny, & jacked it up with a bottle jack at the end of the 2x4's until the clutch worked. I glued & screwed plywood inside & out until it held & then sawzalled the 2x4's off.
Beleive it or not I sold that POS to a guy who claimed he was gonna put it back on the road!
Check out the wall switch screwed to the dash.
