( I have read where several guy with 5 acers are buying the same tractor I bought and I have 160. I mean be for real 5 acres ? You can mow that with a good lawn tractor!!! I think some guys buy a small plot of land and think they need major construction equipment to take care of it. Buy what you need or buy more land if you really want to have a need. )
The size of your land only indirectly defines the size of your tractor. If all you do is mow, then perhaps you are right, but it's not the size of your land, but rather what you do with the tractor that matters.
Let's say you have 5 acres, but over a period of 4 years you build a small pond, clear a couple acres of small trees, plow, disk and till that couple acres and convert it to a two acre garden, build a stone bridge over your small stream, bring in rocks to prevent erosion and keep the stream on course, build a barn, keep an acre and a half of treed area clean and clear of brush and chip the deadfall, split your own wood, store it and move it, well you get the idea.
You could also have 160 areas and bush hog 10 and finsh mow another 1.
Which owner needs more tractor?
It's not just how much land you have that determines how much tractor you need.
That said, many people do buy more tractor than they need -- whatever land they own or projects they plan. I think this is true of many things other than just tractors (including food

). I think you'll find people who have lawn tractors, then go to the Gym and use the treadmill. I don't see why it has to make sense.
People buy bass boats, when they could just buy fish at the grocery store.
