I truly can't see the "fit and finish" issues others have talked about.

Again it's been a few years since we were shopping and series numbers have changed so I won't even try to cite specific examples, but I noticed Mahindra had two distinct "classes" of tractors.

The first was what I would call Modern Design class and the fit/finish for these were on par with any other brand. The other class was what I called New old stuff. These models looked like a 60 year old design that was manufactured yesterday. And it had fit/finish issues that you would expect to see on a 60 year old design.

Most likely if you're not seeing it, you are looking at a "Modern Design" model and I wouldn't let the talk bother me.

I was at the same point as far as deciding what tractor to buy. When I saw that Mahindra qualified for tier 4 without the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), That alone made my decision.

Same here. To see they invested $30 million to design the engine to pass emissions without a band-aid filter showed they were committed for the long haul.

I also have a family member who runs a landscape business that has had nothing but emissions problems with their JD machines. Sensors, regen problems, the whole 9 yards those JD's spend a lot of time in the shop.

Steve - I see what you are talking about. Since I was looking at modern tractors I couldn't really see how any of the brands suffered in "fit and finish". Then I looked at some of the economy, old design, tractors and see what you mean. I found a used tractor I am very happy with but think any of the brands I looked at would have done a fine job too.

A bit off topic but I purchased a Dewalt 12" battery operated chainsaw to clean up the small pines and brush that have grown up at the base of the larger trees. I can't believe how well this thing works and how long it cuts for. So much easier to use then a gas saw for small jobs.

Man I want one of those to have handy when clearing ground with the backhoe and have a small tree get on my hose fittings preventing me from moving without risking a leak.

I saw a Stihl ad for $279 but do not remember any details.

Brushing up my Mahindra history.

There has been a major dealer in Paris TN for 30-40 years. A new dealer has about 40 tractors come in over the past few weeks. The shop has been around for 80 years but was only into commercial saws and riding mowers for the last 40 years. They sure look nice but I am too busy turning old Ford tractors into new ones to stop.

Mahindra would be on my short list locally today but the last time I looked at new tractors was 1992 and was impressed with the small Zetor that I kept for a few years. Dealers and parts for Zetor is not great in these parts these days I am told.
