Thanks for all the replys. The general concensus I am getting is that leasing does cost more money in most cases then buying, especially in the long run. The other thing I understand is it is all how you value your money and what priorties you want to allocate your money towards. Also, trying to save every penny in todays complicated world can drive certain people crazy. Of course in todays economy, you have to try to save the best you can too.
Today we went to the dealership and talked numbers. Without getting into all the math, here is what my wife and I decided. We leased a 2015 ford escape 4x4. Got all the options she needed and can afford the payments. The wife is happy, so that means alot, believe me. Now I dont have to listen to her tell me everyday that something wa as s wrong with her old vehicle. I wanted her to keep running her old vehicle for 2 more years, but she insisted on a newer one.
Leasing should work for her because she prioritizes a very reliable vehicle. Also my thoughts are this. Todays vehicles have alot of electronics and other things that seem to go wrong easier over time and are very expensive to fix, we dont have to worry about that with a lease. All covered under factory warrenty. In 3 years we shouldn't have to worry about tires, allignments, brakes, ball joints, wipers, batteries, bearings, coolant changes, transmission flushes, rusting/rust protection, and some other things that start to go wrong with long term ownership, so this off sets some of the higher costs associated with leasing.
Like I say, leasing is probably not the cheapest way for transportation, but it would appear for my wifes situation and priorities, leasing seems like it will work for her. I wont know for sure right now, but live and learn, as I am up for trying something new for the learning experience. I will let you all know bettr in 3 years. Thanks all again and take care.
