The psychology of tractor colors.

I am particular to a two tone color scheme. John deere's color scheme is iconic. The Green/Yellow has always been there colors and I presume they always will. I am also fond of the Allis Chalmers Orange/white. ( The first green vs. orange debate decades before kubota ever set foot on american soil:D) Maybe it's just me but I like tractors with colors that seem to complement the landscape they work on more than stand out against it. A purple and black paint scheme in my opinion belongs more on asphalt than in a field.

Think I'll tape mine down the middle (front to back) and paint one side JD green and the other IH red, then I'll have both tractors I grew up with  :D :confused2:

Being a antique tractor collector it is interesting to see how the tractors changed colors over the years from what we thought they were. My beloved J I Case company changed tractor colors a dozen times in its history. Sometimes it's just a "shade" change. AC's Persian I and Persian II. The green on a JD spoker D is not the same as the 8430R. I'll agree some company's used a two color paint scheme that I like, (Case used a three color for a little while), To me it's the styling or the design, a tractor should look like a tractor. I depise the hood and headlight design on the larger NH's. I want to cut hay with a tractor not a rocketship. The old name plate hood pieces for the JD 4020 was great styling. The grill for the IH 1466. The wide wrap over fenders with lights on the 1000/600 series Fords. Even the Oliver model with twin air breathers coming out of the hood. Looks mean and powerful. But any who. To each his own. One of my antique club members has a JD B Model he painted Barney purple for his grandaughter. The JD people about flipped but you should the big grin on her face when she drives it with him in a parade. Back to the original question, I can't think of a color or combo that somone is not already using but I like Red....and Blue.....and Green....and Orange.

Since my great uncle sold Minneapolis Moline tractors back in the day, I'm kind of partial to Prairie Gold. In their later years, they changed colors some - i've seen a metallic copper color that was alomost brown on some of them. Not an expected color, but looked pretty neat, like the Jet Star pictured here: TractorData.com Minneapolis-Moline Jet Star tractor photos information

Gloss Black with all chrome accesories! Some mud flap girls decals on the sides and a pinup girl hood art:thumbsup::D, But I like the Darth Varder idea also.

If I owened a tractor company, I would paint em camo. My sales would skyrocket here in the deep south.

A nice beige. It wouldn't show dirt as bad, leaks would show, and it wouldn't fade as bad as say red.

I'm currently in Afghanistan so this is probably a Chinese tractor, but I thought everyone would get a kick out of the paint job and decorationshttp://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=259752&stc=1&d=1333898819

I think a lot of it is 'love at first sight'. We look at a machine and it has too look good. Personally, I think Deere's green is the finest looking color out there, a very neutral color, doesn't show to much dirt, isn't too bright, but looks very nice. Some of the oranges such as Kubota and Kioti are way to bright for me and is just screaming at you. My second favorite would be the Ford/NH blue, still very conservative and not screaming. I like the more neutral colors more than the super bright. My $.02 anyway, very interesting thread.
