True coyote of the southwest is one creature of 35-45lbs. Hunts alone or with it's mate. Clever and curious.
Eastern Red Wolf is a large pack hunting animal that is shy of humans with powerful large jaws and weighs at least double that of the western coyote.

Coyote/Eastern Red wolf is the best and worst of both. The intelligence, curiosity and lack of human fear of a coyote. Also hunts in packs, double the size and has large powerful wolf jaws.

I wonder which of the bobcat or the coyote would back down if they came face to face. They most likely avoid each other but say they were both hungry and one had just made a fresh kill, would one try to snatch it from the other . Coyotes are probably twice as large as bobcats but pound for pound felines pack more of a punch yhan dogs I think.

I would think the Yote would tree a Bobcat in a second. If cornered the Bobcat will fight its way out but being as smart as they are I would guess it would scoot up a tree in a heartbeat. Them Yote’s are tough guys and scared of nothing except humans.

When I am out on our land I have a 223 ranch rife or a pump 12 ga with me. Not so much for the Yotes or Bobcats but stray dogs(wild dogs). I have encountered everything on our land and nothing scares me more than a dog running full bore at me growling. Being deaf I am always looking over my shoulder due to dogs.

I have at least three packs/groupings of coyotes on my property and see at least one coyote on my travels every day. Have a friend that traps/hunts them and he says a 35-40 pound coyote is a big one for this area. A coyote is nothing more that a hotdog with a big fur coat on.

For sure! One of the few times i truly feared for my life from an animal, was having a dog pack pick up on me. They were on one side of a chainlink fence, i was on the other side. Running for all i was worth to get to my rig before they got around the end of the fence over to my side. I felt pretty sure, if i'd not gotten to the truck, they would have mobbed me and knocked me down. EEk, was all i was thinking.

Out here in the desert, the yote's are all scrawny. I doubt that I've seen one over 35#. Not much to eat!
I see them in the day and hear them at night. I suppose they have to hunt 24/7 to survive.

They hunt as singles in the summer, but pack up to 4 or 5 in the winter.

Just for the heck of it this is the bobcat. Length would appear to be about 4', measured by getting another picture of the stonewall it was walking on with a yard stick to see length. It's obviously stretched out going stone to stone.

This picture is of a large house cat close to the camera. Tail is way too long, no "Bob" there! Plus the markings on the legs are not bobcat.

Thats what we thought at first. Looking online the markings are similar to out local bobcats, but blurry. I think its the angle that makes the tail seem long. I actually measured our domestic cats tail and it is as long as his body when he stretches, so this would be a very short tail on a domestic cat.

The camera was a few feet from the wall. It was easy to verify size since you can see what stones its stepping on. Unless its the worlds largest house cat, the only other thing that makes sense is a bobcat. (And there have been sightings nearby recently).
