Bates,
First: Change the oil whenever and with whatever you wish. It is your money.
Second: You say GM does not care? What about resell value? What about changes in Oil and engines technology? All of my research shows that the 3mo/3000mi interval came out in the 60's. How many cars are produced today with carbed engines? When I sold parts retail in the late 80's performance parts then are not even the standard in some cases today. Have you looked at the oil change interval of some of the high revving imports? Times have changed, technology has changed, oil has changed, regulations have changed, accept it. Just because you don't understand or believe in something does not mean that it does not exist or works. I have said on this board before do as you want, just as I have said before do as you wish but don't pass opinions as facts. It does no good.
Did you also notice that I said under the RIGHT CONDITIONS. Did you notice I said 5-6000 miles ON AVERAGE? I have co-workers that have over 100,000 miles on their vehicles using Dino oil and GM OLM. Take some time to research the OIL LIFE MONITOR with people that post FACTS not opinions. No, I am not saying to look at GM websites but find the websites where REGULAR people are using the OLM, and had their oil tested. I did before I started to use it. 78000+ miles no problems and plans on reaching 200,000+.
As I already said, Change the oil whenever and with whatever you wish. It is your money.
I was responding to ( Strange?? Ive never seen that sort of service intervals EVER published in ANY GM owners handbook! If they TRULY believed that..they should walk the walk...not just talk the talk. ) with information pulled directly from a GM Owners Manual (Yes, cut and paste not retyped, It is available on the internet.)
I was just posting FACTS not opinions. If you are not a GM person, Hate them, Love FORD, Imports or whatever you like, I don't care. Just don't try to post your opinions as facts.
There is always 2 sides to a story and the truth is somewhere in the middle. I try to find the middle.
