The things you find cleaning out old barns.

I used to save everything, then we moved and I had to clean out a lot of stuff, which I still miss months later! Now at our new property, I have room to really keep some stuff around. I have a tractor path into the woods with pallets and piles of miscellaneous materials on each side. I bet I go through there once a week and scrounge up something which saves me a trip into town to the hardware store or lumberyard. At this rate, my daughter will inherit quite a stash!

Linville Falls Restaurant. It is a restaurant that has been around since the early 1950s. I have no idea why or how my Dad ended up with it.

I have pack-rat DNA coursing thru my veins. At my dad's place there is 35+ years of accumulated "good stuff" that we're going thru and putting back into circulation. It's amazing what people will cart off when you put it at the end of the driveway with a "free" sign.

We have also been going through the junk in our 100 year old barn. We want to restore it, so we have to clean it out first. In addition to lots of old tools and rusty hardware, we found letters that my wife's dad wrote home while serving as an army medic in WW2, as well as original lyrics to songs that he wrote with accompanying letters to various publishers in hopes he could get them printed and published. Lots more to go through, but it's too cold right now. We'll resume our treasure hunting in the spring.

Yep but I had one person stop and pick up my string trimmer that I had put away with fuel in it years ago. Found it when I was looking for something else. I put that out with "free" on it. They picked it up but took the bag of string refill and spare head off the handle and left it on the ground! Go figure.
