The top benefit of having a cab tractor.

If you're asking my top benefit of a cab, it's for blowing snow. I blew snow for 17 years on an open tractor and finally said "that's enough!".

My first cabbed tractor had an afermarket cab with no HVAC. I added a heater.

My B3030 has a factory cab with heat and AC. It's great for mowing/brush-hogging, or even driving it down the road when it's 90ー out. As others have mentioned, I think I appreciate the dust protection more than the AC, although there is no way I operate a cab with no AC in the summer, even in VT!

Can't over emphasize the sentiments expressed in this post. It is just spot on.!!!!!

I have my wife to blame (LOL) for having a cab tractor.

Same here, Lynn. I was initially looking at picking up an 8N. Always loved those tractors. My Wife said, "1) Not interested in getting an old tractor that's going to require a lot of work and money to keep it running, 2) Think about the ground hornets in the pasture when mowing with an open station anything, and 3) Do you really want to move snow in the winter without a cab?"

She'd thought it through much more thoroughly than had I. So, we got a new cab tractor ... and I don't hate it at all. Having AC when mowing in the hot and humid summers here is awesome, and seeing those little stinging buggers bouncing off the glass is downright entertaining.

When I bought my tractor, I knew I'd be mowing in the summer and blowing snow in the winter. I also knew that I was not going to have the tractor parked inside...and didn't fancy the idea of plopping my butt down in a puddle of slush most times I used the tractor. For owners parking outside, a cab saves all kinds of grief (including sheltering the controls).

Your point about ground hornets is excellent. I have a friend who had and open 8N tractor and ran over a nest of ground hornets. He also had a bee allergy. Once they came out of the ground he tried to get off the tractor and inadvertently knocked it into gear with his foot. The tractor lunged forward and ran over his leg. It then continued to go forward and the brush hog took off his foot at the ankle and the bees attacked. When the fire department medics arrived he was in multiple system shock from the trauma as well as the allergic reaction closing his airway. He survived and now has a prosthetic leg sadly.

I agree with all the heat, cold, hornet, dust, allergy, comments. In addition, we have LOTS of ticks in May & June......and then get into Deer Fly times in June July August. The **** deer flies can be brutal here. Makes my bush hogging miserable.....as you get bitten about your ears and neck.....ususally when its also hot and during pollen high mowing events. I used to wear my "bug-out" netting to bush hog.....and it gets so darned hot making it a miserable job.

Cab is sure nice.

I have a friend who ...

Sorry about your friend. I have a cousin a year older than me who ran himself over with his own tractor (an old IH) when we were teenagers. He leaned over to look at something, lost his balance and slipped, and fell in front of the rear wheel. Fortunately, he was able to roll out of the way before the discs got to him. Broke his pelvis in two places, and he spent the rest of that summer in a wheel chair, but fully recovered.

I have very much enjoyed my open station Kubota, but in hindsight, we should have stretched the budget and got one with a cab. I love the tractor, would enjoy it more in the summer heat with cab for sure. My kids are all for it, they are drooling over my collection of junk, a cabbed tractor would be nice addition.
