YEE HAW! My new CK20HST was delivered today. I even managed to get some quality 'seat time'. Did you know that black flies aren't as bad with a little diesel exhaust near buy? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Unfortunately my baby and its associated implements will have to set outside (under tarps) for a while until the building stork also arrives. Meanwhile I'm concerned with securing my implements so they don't "grow legs" and disappear. Do any of you guys ever chain york rakes or back blades etc. to trees? Just curious what you guys do for security besides the old stand by ... smith and wesson.

There have been several threads discussing locking or securing equipment. Depending on where you live it may be a good idea.

We chained my sons Go-Cart to our old lawn tractor that sat outside. It's a lot harder to move something when something else is attached to it. The more you can attach, the better. G

My insurance guy threatened to cancel my tractor theft insurance since I am not a full-time resident on the property where it lives. I ran a heavy steel cable around a big tree behind behind my 'bota barn (otherwise known as the Costco carport), and padlocked it through one of the rear wheels. Once he drove out and examined this "security" arrangement, he had no more qualms about continuing the policy.

You can't stop a determined thief, but only slow them down. I would use both chain and cable. A determined thief will have bolt cutters and cable is easier to cut than a stout chain. I once saw a car that had a very heavy chain that went through the floor and around the frame rail, back up and through the steering wheel as theft protection in Boston. The car thieves couldn't steal it, so they set it on fire. The problem with thieves is that if they can't get what they want, they will destroy what they went after. The best protection is to keep it out of sight. If there is a local neighbor, possibly you could store it near their home and do some work for them in exchange for the storage. It will be a lot safer that way.

Good points, Junkman. I selected my parking space to be EXTREMELY out-of-sight, and there are very good neighbors and kin living all around, so maybe I'm naive, but I think I'm fairly secure. You are absolutely correct though, NOTHING will stop a determined thief, short of perhaps some careful aiming.
