Today I plowed the drieway after a 15 incher and well lo and behold i manage to smash the back end of my father's mercedes. I was turning around and the tractor slid right into the back.....I can think of no worse feeling.....

Quick, cover it with snow and maybe he won't notice it till after he gets to town. Maybe put some green or blue paint on it first.

Well, the ultimate would have been injuring or killing someone when you were clearing the snow....but I'm sure you really feel bad.

I don't try to get too close to the vehicles (in our case, a 10 year old Explorer and 11 year old Ranger)when I plow. I get fairly close with the FEL and back drag....normally stay a few feet away. Since I've forgotten about the extra length during a turn (fortunately, no damage in my case), I give pretty wide berth to any obstacles such as vehicles.

How much damage was there on the M-B? Is it a newer one?

So far, I've only caught a driveway marker (4x4) with the rear blade and spun the tractor down in a ditch. Only damage was to the 4x4.

Had I ever hit the back of my father's car with anything I would have just took off and kept on going.../w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

You learn by your mistakes....chalk it up for experience...your home owners policy should take care of it. Still makes you feel sick though, the main concern here would be...how is your wife taking it ?

Here in California, any cars parked in the roadway where the plow or snow blower comes through is not only responsible for damage to the plow/blower but gets a fine as well. Was your father aware of this, do you have these same rules for your driveway? Perhaps you could let him off with just a fine and not make him pay for the paint scratched on the loader bucket. I have to agree with another comment, it may have been a tough mistake, but no one was physically hurt, sorry for the misfortune, Rat...

I know the feeling, having taken out my neighbor's swimming pool one day! /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Actually, they thanked me for it! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif They had been wanting a bigger one, and this was their excuse. My insurance company was great about it, and their new pool is in place and they love it.

Learning experience.. I'll say!! /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif
