Well, thanks for all the comments guys. This has been interesting to say the least. This was really about the project, not the reason for the project--as someone pointed out. I guess I just added the reasonin' as seasonin', as they say. If it helps anybody to understand more, there was no way to see this coming and no way I would spend this amount of money and time out of hate, anger, or to just be exclusive. We're happy here. if we really weren't, well ...we had a choice to put our house on the market when Grandpop apologized and told us what his heir was going to do. we thought about it but knew we had alternatives. So, my wife and I truly consider this a property improvement project. And yes, I am still allowed to gripe about the reason on occasion. It has nothing to do with the future occupants or what somebody might misjudge us to be.
When we bought we were told by the realtor and the neighbors that the old guy would never sell and that the land was not buildable that close to the creek. We actually talked to the old boy to verify the first part, which he did. Good enough for a family of four seeking a good sized, private parcel of turf, timber, and home. The first part held true--he didn't sell it. Lack of smart regulation allowed the other part to happen--it's just too marshy for anything quick and simple there.
Hope he turns out to be a good neighbor now. That's a completely separate thing from wanting privacy. All my other neighbors are good neighbors and none of us want to look in each other's windows. At least I hope there aren't any voyeurs out there in our neighborhood /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
