The WORST Backhoe Job...Again...

I did not write this but it does bring me a lot of comfort. Maybe it will you too,

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

This summer I buried one of our horses, she was a good girl - proud - but her arthritis in her knee would not let her get up easily- she used to canter 2 strides, trot two strides, jump ditches, but then it went to work on her other knee. She was always in some pain but she was active and not willing to give up. It changed.
The vet came out, she had finally managed to get on her feet, walking was hard for her. We gave her an apple to eat while she was put down. After the vet was gone, I dug the hole and pulled her out of the barn. Our other horse nosed her for a time. Then I buried her. I'd rather use a backhoe for something else, but it does the job.

I lost two of my best furry friends to cancer within two years. My wife and I said we wanted to wait, to let the hurt heal a bit. Well that lasted four months until we drive three hours through a snow storm to pick up Mille. Millie had never left the kennel and promptly threw up (twice!) in my wife's lap. Oh well you have to love dogs. Millie and all other pets bring so much unconditional love into our lives that the hurt when we lose them is far outweighed by what they bring.

Hang in there, the pain will pass and although a new pet will never replace the one you lost, it will bring love and affection.

Another dog owner who'd been there!

I can relate, buried my 14 year old friend on Labor Day. Still hurts. Hope you move on sooner than I have been able to, just not a wonderful job for the backhoe. :(

Sorry for your loss. I have had the experience several times myself, dogs, cat, rabbits and hamsters and canaries. Sad to loose family member dogs the hardest.
