Whether you get stabbed with a screwdriver or taken out with a bazooka, I don't see that it much matters. Dead is dead and Mamma probably says he was a "good" boy . One place free for another in the prisons.

Home invasions in rural Oklahoma are kinda risky; even our young ladies are pretty handy with a firearm. Not too long ago, a young widow with a baby shot and killed an intruder with a shotgun, and a 12 year old shot an intruder through a closet door with her mother's handgun.
Some just simply can't spell Poetic Justas.

Again, an old story. When in high school in a small town, most of the kids played sports. Most of the parents/grand parents/friends went to the games, especially the home games. We had our shop (1/4 mile from house) robbed 3 times within 2 years. Sheriff did nothing, after first robbery, he recommended marking new tools with ID, suggested drivers license number. Replacements bought along with engraver that was used to mark all the tools with name and license number. After the second robbery, sheriff told Pa that driver license can't be used, that he should have used SS#. Pa was fit to be tied, but the replacement tools were all engraved/labeled with SS#.

I am confident that we would have robbed again and again since the sheriff was doing nothing. Pa took some pictures of some tire tracks and footprints (fresh snow is wonderful for capturing those). He asked around who might drive a rig with those type of tires. He knew the punks (helped their single mom with her farm more than once). I got to go along with him when he went to their house. The mom denied it, claiming her boys were such wonderful young men (drug dealers, ran with rough crowds). She called the boys in from the farm shop and when they saw Pa, they turned very pale.

She asked them if they had anything to do with the robberies, they were shaking and denied it sort of.. mumbling. The Momma told Pa that she would take care of it if that was okay with him. Pa replied, ok by me, but I need these boys to know that if anything happens to our house, shop, equipment, anything at all, he was coming after the boys and would handle the discipline personally. The boys were mumbling about not being able to control other peoples actions... Pa said, get the word out, nothing happens at the ranch, period.

I heard from some druggies at school that the Momma had beaten those boys to an inch of their lives (they were much bigger than she was, but she had the power over them). We never had anything stolen or messed with on that farm as long as Pa was alive.

I miss the old days sometimes. I sure miss Pa too, he hardly ever threatened anyone, but when he did, they surely did deserve it.

Perhaps some high mounted flood lights on motion sensors is the answer? If the place was lit up like daytime, those hidden cameras could capture what they need to without infrared flash.

Rocking chair on the cabin front porch with a leaned up loaded double barrel just in case the hounds are sound asleep.

My wife tells me that I play drill instructor too much with my own boys. I do believe in dicipline, but I honestly believe in love more.

If "mamma" had to beat these boys within a inch of their lives at their older age, no doubt she beat them within an inch of their life when they where young (and why were they still stealing if she beat them?). Ultimatley my point is beating kids doesn't accomplish much IMO other than raising kids who want to beat their own kids as punishment.

Don't sell the "drill instructor" short. Most boys do need a strong male presence in their lives; while I don't think it requires beating, I do believe they need the authority and some clear guidelines.

I can assure you, I am the drill instructor. I did basic at Sill and my father was career military and I grew up under him LOL (don't call me sir...)

My only point is that with your children, you need to let them know you love them as actions always speaks louder than words.

The added reality is if you know your children, there could be punishments far more worse than the punishment being "physical".

Had a cousin move in from out of state back in the late seventies. Her husband died and she sold a chain of gas stations and bought a small farm 'on the backside of nowhere' near her mother's house. It was well known locally that she had money. The house she build was not that big but had things in it like a sauna, glass surrounded fireplace, and a garage in the basement for three vehicles. Hang in there, gotta explain before the story begins.

So my eccentric cousin went on a weekend trip to a football game in her car and when she got back her Jeep and pickup gas tanks were filled up with water. Other things were done to the house such as somebody taking a crap in the bathtubs and urinating all over the sauna. After the second time this happened she made it known that she was going on another trip for a weekend and the Sherriff was going to be driving by watching the house. What she didn't say was that she snuck one (have heard since that it was two) men into the house to watch over it. When she got back the basement was torn up pretty bad and there was blood all over the place. Three boys in one family about a mile away were beat up BADLY and dumped in the ditch in front of their parents home. Threats were made against her and the next weekend she flew out of town again and every window in the parents house was shot out while the family was in bed inside. I was told they used low powered birdshot at close range.

Not surprisingly the petty theft around the area stopped completely.

And anybody from the area reading this and thinking about what family was involved you are probably wrong. Wasn't the bank robber or his family, wasn't the tobacco farmer or his family, wasn't the one who later turned out to be a murderer. My cousin is long gone and the boys involved have all passed on from this world but they pretty much straightened up after that little feud.

I heard it this way. Discipline with love creates maturity. Discipline with out love creates rebellion. We sure have a lot of rebellion going on in our society!
