I have a 1401D , I found that when I shut engine off (fuel) and left key on that thermostart was ON! Started smoking. I have checked power at switch and circuit to thermostart getting power in run position and in pre heat position. I have looked at schematic and looks like there is no relay and possibly it should be getting power all the time. Kinda confusing. I just unplugged it until I figure it out.

Thanks for that drawing. I see the r1 -r2 connection in schematic. I will check terminal numbers and see. Wonder if that had anything to do with blowby if extra fuel was coming in all the time and washed cylinders down. Just thinking out loud.

I wouldn't think it would wash down the cylinders and evidently the coil is ok or it wouldn't be smoking. No doubt it does need to be hooked up correctly.

maybe a corroded switch , contact making where it shouldn't be?

Is this a new to you tractor? No on the wash down, unless its a model that refills itself there is only like an ounce of fuel in the resivoir and when that is gone its gone unless your filling it up
