If Yaouk is a place, how does one pronounce it?

Its pronounced "y-eye-ack" Its a locality in the Snowy Mountains in Aust. (Not much here except me)

I have tried to find out what it actually means without much success. I think it may mean horse in some Scottish dialect.
Any ideas?
