They are boostering the State Fair being held this week

I don’t know how the state fair works, but I know a bit about how our county fair works.

They contract with an amusement company to provide the rides. No one in our county owns an amusement company, so they aren’t taking anything away from anyone here in that regard. They take a cut of the ride proceeds, and the money goes to support the fairgrounds upkeep and the 4H program.

I went to the Big-e when we had my uncles house in MA-Man that place is huge and something for everyone. Of course that was 30 years or so ago.

My Grandfather raised pigs and sheep and my uncle ran cattle so I spent lots of time at my uncles and grandfathers because of family issues when I was young. So raising food came natural to me.


Fast forward 50 years and my wife and I went to the local county fair. We split up cause she wanted to see the quilting section and I went to the pens area. I was the only person in there aside from the owners feeding and watering their animals. And it was getting late.

I looked over at a pen and the sign said "bubbles". He was a steer and I walked over to his pen. He walked over to me and I gave him some ear scratches and then I walked away. There was something about him.....

Every since then I will never go to a fair because of that interaction. He** , I can't even kill a spider now. It's for sure I'd never made it raising animals for food. I do have dogs though. They rule me as I'm a total pushover.

When I was young I got a job at a traveling show. Every kid should run away with the circus when they are a teenager. It's a special world, or at least it was 60 years ago.

It was neat seeing the old tractors and other stuff in the parade. I tasted about 45 minutes so lots of iron. Saw an old JD40 bulldozer. Brough back lots of memories. We had one when I was a kid and it was the first powered vehicle I learned to operate. My dad was a wizard with it.
