They're not just for mice anymore

Steel wool worked for me in our oud double-wide. I do not like nor tolerate snakes of any kind around my home or out buildings. We have five cats and they do a very nice job in keeping down the rodent population.

Send all those gopher snakes my way since they eat rattlesnakes. I just killed another 18" mohave on my lawn the other night. Thankfully my dogs are on leash at night and they have had their vaccination. I would really like to find a way to entice roadrunners to stick around since they will eat a **** of a lot of rattlesnakes.

As I understand it Mice have no skeleton ..they can collapse their bodies and squeeze through the smallest opening you can imagine. When we had our house built I had consturction adhesive applied liberally on top of the base plate all around our house..it took about 3 cases of adhesive and then we used house wrap and foam wherever needed..so far after 5 yrs. no mice but when we used to live at the farm even with our mouser cats we had mice...steel wool in the openings stopped that.

Ummm what???? Yes mice have a skeleton. But yes they squeeze themselves through amazingly small spaces.

Oh I forgot to mention I have mice and rats. Snap traps in the house but nothing outside. I have five dogs, four of them are good mousers can't use any poison for fear the dogs will get ahold of it or a poisoned rodent. Have a few snakes around but my best rodent weapon is the horde of owls that live in the woods and the outbuildings. Don't wanna poison them either. :)7

I tried the glue traps myself. Caught two mice. First, I had to kill. Second I found one night when I returned home after being gone for the weekend. The trap was under my kitchen table, not where I placed it. The mouse was very dead.

What I found rather disturbing was his head. It was bare. Or I should say his skull was bare. No skin, no eyes, no ears etc. I assume another mouse had a meal of his compatriot.

My next effort was an electric trap. Dollop of peanut butter in teh back for bait. I smelled something distinct a few days later and found a nicely dead mouse contained therein. Only had one mouse since then, it also died of electrocution.

Speaking of that trap, I should refresh the bait and put new batteries in it. Time for the little basterds to move into my space again.
