Thin Buckets

To Start, I hate a bent bucket. With that said, my 2816 has 18hrs and I have already managed to bend it. It was a rare incident,I was pushing up an old fence and wedged a wooden fence post just perfect enough to bow out my upper lip about 1 inch. My question is, do I need to reenforce my outter edges with some flat bar or angle iron. Or is the bucket strong enough, and I need to be more careful. Just wanted to hear some of your experiences.

I posted this here because there is sooo many bucket and loader types out there. Wanted some Mahindra FEL, or whoever makes them, opinions and advice. Thanks.

In my opinion, yes they need reinforcement. That is if you are doing anything other than moving piled up loose material. I put 3/8" 2x2 angle on the top lip and 3/8" flat bar stock on the sides. Have not had any problems with the 3215 bucket or the 7520 bucket.

Excellent job on the bucket! I was thinking about reinforcing the top of my bucket similar to that to weld some hooks on.

Nice!! I'm going to look into doing the same. Who made your toothbar. I called Markham and they said $350 including shipping. That sounds about right according to other prices I've seen.

No toothbar, I welded on those teeth to the cutting edge. that is my 78" digging bucket. I also have an 84" materials bucket.

The top lip on my 2615 was bent when I bought the tractor with 225 hrs. I had it straightened and added reinforcement then three hooks and a receiver to move trailers. I have not done anything to the sides.

I have a 4530 with about 14hrs and I also seemed to put a good dent in the top of my bucket.I think most of the mahindra buckets seem a little thin to me.I love the tractor and will add some steel to my bucket, thanks for the idea

Guys,
All the KMW buckets are really light weight buckets compared to the Mahindra they are mounted on. I have my 84 inch bucket reinforced on the top and sides and still bent my cutting edge slightly.

This may be off topic but when my dad and I went to california to get the new Deere CT322 skidsteer, I went and payed around the gravel yard while he talked to the guys in the office. I got off and noticed a huge crack in the bucket. It was through the cutting edge and about 1/4 of the way in. We talked to the dealer and they decided to put a bead on the crack. I took off the bucket ant there was wore out paint and dents on the back. They painted the bucket to make it look new. We ended up getting a new C72'' bucket for free. Then they gave me my own key which is now the spare. I stared at the skidsteer in the mirror all the way home. That was about 8 hours plus one after we got a flat tire. I climbed all over the skidsteer and found every single feature durring that hour.
