Tractors only have brakes on the rear axles. The only way to get brakes on the front is to leave it in 4wd. An economy L with 100-200lbs of gate hanging from the bucket & nothing on the 3pt will not stop going down a gentile hill unless it's in 4wd. Ask the 2 pallet fork sized holes in the back of my barn how I found that out. Ballast on the 3pt or being in 4wd would have saved things. The economy Ls are pretty light on the back end.Yes, should have said front
Can someone tell me if its Ok just to leave tractor in 4WD or am I asking for more repair bills, I only have sand, dont forsee ever hitting pavement
I tend to pop my machines in & out of 4wd a lot. Mostly to save the grass & tires. There is a lot of scuffing when you do tight turns in 4wd. The drivetrain will take it fine, but I dont like tearing up the field. I'm also a fan of getting stuck in 2wd. That means you can put it in 4wd & have a chance of getting un-stuck. Along with the afore mentioned need for 4wd when using the loader if you want brakes.
