My mother's advice was to ALWAYS lock the car door with the key, providing a level of certainty that the key was in your hand before locking the door.

Ahh, technology has finally caught up with Mom. My car will not lock with the keys inside. It will unlock and give you a loud three beeps when you close the door, like saying "Hey Stupid,,, Keys?".

Here are two I don't think I saw mentioned:

Phone calls that violate the 'do not call' joke of a law. The worst is Card Services.

Computer answered phone systems that want you to speak to them, but often don't understand your responses. All I really want is to speak to a person. All the company really wants is to deal with you through a computer.

This one you won't relate to unless you live in California's Central Valley. Many people - including weather forecasters who should know better - refer to the weather up in the "Sierras". Sierra is an Indian word that refers to mountain range. There is only one Sierra Nevada mountain range so any reference should be singular, as in "weather up in the Sierra".

The Fox news map on which they do their weather grossly underestimates the southern extent of the Appalachians according to their elevation color code. The highest peak east of the Miss. appears to actually be on relatively flat ground. I wrote them to warn of their odd map, but I got nothing out of that, and the map is still quite odd.

My son's BMW is like that. I asked what happens if you lock the keys (well there is no key really, it's a fob) in the trunk, he said it opens.
