Things to do in Northern California?

Honestly, I'm looking more forward to the road trips "getting lost" and enjoying the scenery more so than visiting Yosemite.
Found this pic at the beginning of the trip over Ebbetts Pass in CA.

A big part of the eastern slope on Ebbetts pass is single lane with no stripe. It can be a big thrill in an RV. We drove it at night once coming home from Moab. Part way up we decided to unhitch the jeep from the RV and drive them separately over the pass. Those are the kind of things that can leave lasting memories about a road trip.

My favorite trips in CA.
Yosemite down through SF, Stop in Carmel/Monterrey and then to big sur.
I have driven from north of Yosemite down to TJ and love the coastline drives, especially super early at sunrise.

At Yosemite we rented mountain bikes to avoid some of the bus waits and that was really fun.

Muir woods is a good way to see big trees on the way to SF. And Sausilito across from SF is great at night.

Crime in SF in good neighborhoods is low.

Ahh, what would a vacation be without crowds.... fun! 🤣

One year right after our kids' school got out for the summer, we headed over to Cedar Point in OH, and over to DC and points in between.

We were worried about crowds. OH schools had a teachers strike, and the kids had to stay in school at the end of the year to make up for it. Cedar Point was darn near 1/2 empty. DC was still in school, too. Worked out perfect.

Again, a very sincere thank you for the feedback.

Might do the San Fran to Big Sur drive, but also actually excited about Nevada for myself. Only times I spent in Nevada was flying into Vegas to spend to spend time in Utah.

Going "old school" after the trip last year with my boy to NY where I thought I knew the area and didn't think a map would be helpful (I live on that thing for work sometimes). Ordered Gazetteers for California and Nevada, and will have to teach the boy how to use a map to plan trips and not your phone :ROFLMAO:

Anyone who gives a road / route and where to travel, I'll assure you, I'll be looking at it in the upcoming months.

Got me thinking that last year taking my boy up to NY, first time I ever went through Wellsboro. Pennsylvania is the second longest term state I've lived in for about 10 years. Even though I worked on the east side of the state and the west side of the state, never been up to Wellsboro going to NY, even though a good kayking buddy was from that area. Point being I never knew how beautiful it was up there even though I lived in the state for 10 years.

One reason why people who live in Pa don't know much about their own state. People on the East Side go to to the Jersey Shore and people on the west side go to Cedar Point or lake Erie. No one who lives in the state actually travels both ends of the state (like me not going north through Wellsboro going to NY LOL).

Pretty much the only location people know from the East Side of the state is Pittsburgh, and the west side of the State Philly (or perhaps Harrisburg).

Thing I've found is in NC, people from the West side go to the NC shore, and people from the East Side go to the mountains in western NC, so it seems everyone is familiar with where all the bigger cities / towns are.

When I'd go home on the East side in Pa for the holidays when I lived on the West side of Pa, most of the people didn't even know where Erie was and I had to tell them about 90 minutes north of Pittsburgh LOL

Been living in Nevada since I moved here in 1969 and have been exploring the state ever since. So if you have questions about Nevada (other than Vegas or Reno, don't go there!), feel free to ask.

I know how beautiful Pennsylvania is. That's where I grew up until I was relocated to Nevada by the US Navy. The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, not far from Wellsboro:

Been to Vegas 4 times.

The first 3 times flew in around midnight, rental car and straight into Utah, and I'd drive from Arizona the day of my flight to Vegas and be there early. Only time I stayed in Vegas was at the airport.

Last trip was with my girlfriend and my dad. Since my mom had passed and my Dad went out to Vegas with her, his only request was that we spend a couple of days in Vegas before we flew out. We did. Honestly, the town wasn't as bad as I thought it would be LOL

I'll be reviewing this thread to look up places and routes. If you can think of anything interesting and haven't posted it yet, feel free to do so. A very sincere thank you.

Honestly, and this may sound dumb, but after ordering those gazetteers, I never fully understood how big Nevada was. Nevada was never on my radar because I was dumb enough to think that the only thing the state had was desert and Vegas. Again, my stupidity.
