I think if some wives were to read this, all of Junkman's and Slowrev's stuff would be up for sale!!!

Well I did have a few older computers in my basement but I just gave two of them to my children to clear them out. The rest of my junk, er I mean other good stuff gets sold off at eBay on a regular basis. I try not to let it pile up like Junkman does. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wow. I know where you're coming from and I spent a lot of last week doing what someone will be doing for you.

One of my role models was Richard Johnson. He was an extremely interesting man of seventy five. He loved working and work loved him too.

He died a couple of week ago, brain aneurism, sudden like.

About six months ago he started cleaning up his two acres. The city had been on him and he'd made considerable progress.

We got to finish it. Richard never saw a piece of steel he didn't like. We're going to have five heaping twenty two feet by eight feet by four feet loads of scrap steel. Including ten fifty five gallon drums of nuts and bolts.

Yesterday I got out the cutting torch and cut up two trailers made from mobile home axles along with a couple of truck beds and ladder racks.

What's sad is among all the good stuff was a bunch of stuff I gave away about a year ago when I finally took a raise in rent as a wakeup call to cut back on junk.

Richard installed commercial doors. Everything from regular garage doors to those super custom stainless jobs you see in the malls. He was always on construction sites. If some bolts or nuts or a chunk of "good" steel hit a dumpster Richard was on it like stink on a skunk.

When he died his family wondered about his collecting and told us to make it all go away. I was told I could have anything I wanted. All I kept was a couple of decent looking steel trusses and some sticks of aluminum angle.

Back on topic, I have a super eight camera, projector, and some films taken in 67 in the afore mentioned south each asia. They've been converted to VHS but I still haven't got rid of the hardware. I built the dresser--entertainment center in the master bedroom. It has a built in cassette and eight track deck. I have the Craftsman radial arm saw that everyone else has and the matching fourteen inch band saw, neither been lit up in at least ten years.

I have two Lancer four point spinner hubcaps from a 57 Dodge with a hemi. I washed and waxed that car for fifty cents an hour paid in silver dollars forty years ago. Some junk is truly "neat".

Been following this discussion, and thinking about all the junk we have that we should get rid of. Yup, I have one of those Craftsman radial arm saws that hasn't been used for ten years. Plus one of the original Atari 2600's (remember those) and a huge assortment of older VCRs and assorted 35mm camera equipment, manual focus type. Plus my wife's first PC, a Gateway 386SX.

I had the misfortune to marry a fellow pack rat who has difficulty getting rid of anything...guess we deserve each other.

I sure am glad to hear that all you other people have a health respect for "junk". Now, the truth be told, it isn't really junk as junk is commonly known. It is actually "diamonds" in another form that we treasure as if they were so valuable that they belong in a locked vault. If it were not for the fact that these pieces of "junk" provide us with a sense of belonging, we would probably just throw them away. The Egyptians knew this all too well, and when they buried their Kings, they buried them with all the things that they would need in their afterlife to continue to "live" comfortably. When I pass on, they are going to need a big hole to bury me and all my junk, but I sure am going to be comfortable. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
