I was cutting the grass and was almost done when i noticed slight vibration ,i thought one of the blades was loose so I stopped the tractor and checked the blades all was good i then lifted the hood and checked the oil it was full and checked the antifreeze it was full,looked around engine bay all looked good ,so I got back on the tractor and started the engine ,all of sudden heavy black smoke and the engine reved up to max rpm 3500rpm or more? I turned the key off, holding the key in the air not even in the ignition and the engine continued to rev . i tried to close the throtle but it was already closed, no response, i was now thinking this engine is going to blow, i now tried to loosen the fuel filter to introduce air in fuel to stop the flow ,fuel now leaking now i'm thinking fire so i tighen the filter and engine still racing, then i though i better load this engine so I put it in high gear and drive it ,this did bring the engine rpm down a bit around 3200rpm and still blowing black smoke and i notice the fuel gauge now reading about a 1/4 tank, could i be burnning that much fuel it was almost full 5 minutes ago, i could also hear knocking in engine,then after 2minutes it starts to slow down and now i see white smoke ,like when and engine blows (coolant in combustion chamber)now engine shuts off ,I get my son and wife and a friend to push it back in the garage NOT A GOOD DAY, suspect something stuck in injector pump (diesel run away)

Holy Crap!! Not sure what I would do in that situation. Good luck on the repair, please keep us updated on what the root cause was.

Anyone know what's the best steps to do in this situation besides what taos tried?

I would say that the injector pump is hung up full on. is there oil in it?

Wow!! Do those have a fuel filter bowl that you can see the filter through??? Wonder if the filter came loose and something came through to the injector pump??:confused:

My B7610 has a shutdown lever on the side of the engine right by where the throttle linkage connects. The engine side cover needs to be removed to see it. I found it by giving it the ol' "what's this do" one day while tinkering under the hood. I have considered attaching a length of aircraft cable to this that will exit the engine compartment somewhere with a toggle handle on it just in case something like this happens.

Manually pressing injector stop ( that's how the system switches itself off -- the click that you hear )would have stopped the engine , but that's too late now. I bet you freaked !
The injector pump has lost spring return and runs flat out . When folk
rebuild these things , sometimes this happens upon first start after
re-installation. Hope there's no engine damage . This is not a good start.
Don't touch anything ; get the Dealer to collect it and fix ........ don't tamper !

Best way to stop an engine in that situation is to cut off the air supply. On these little B-series you would just have to pop the hood and bend the air cleaner back to crimp the hose off. That's the only sure way to stop one in a run away condition as sometimes they are running on their own oil (such as after a roll-over), therefore stopping the fuel has no effect. At least it is under warranty.

That shut down lever was the only way to shut off my old B7200 and I was happy to see that my new B engine still had the same lever it just wasn't hooked to anything.

This is best !! I have seen some guys on here post that they always keep a rag on the tractor to stuff in the air intake for this very reason.

6.5 hours. Don't mess with it. It 's the dealers problem and you don't want to jeopardize anything. Let the warrantee kick in. Find out where the fuel cut off is by the filter....

Things do happen, give the dealer a call and tell them what happened. It sucks though.

im going to find out tomorow morning i'm taking the day off to get this resolved,thanks for the rag trick i didn't think of that my first thing that came to my mind its going to blow and im going to get hurt from flying parts,rad fan,a rod through the block etc. so this is why i tried to kill the engine by intruducing air in the fuel at the filter. oh and the filter was tight and no water or dirt in it ,( i can see through it because its clear), then when i loosened the filter it started to leak fuel then i was thinking fire , so that's when i decided to load the engine by driving in high gear ,because i saw the fuel gauge down around 1/4 tank though it was burning fuel so fast i could run it out of fuel in 3 minutes , then i tough about it fuel gauge when down because there was no key in the ignition, like i said earlier rpm were high at the end of tach 3500rpm or more ? don't think engine is any good now my friend got away from tractor because he was afraid it was going to blow, he and i could hear the strange noise it was doing

Find your solenoid and learn how to force it into the off position. I had a generator that exhibited this type of behaviour and even forcing the solenoid off still would not kill it but it did reduce the RPM's ,which were fluctuating, and eventually got it to stop. This was a computer controlled generator with a cool down sequence so simply turning it OFF was not black & white. In your case, I think forcing the solenoid to close the fuel flow would have stopped it, if not right away, soon thereafter. At least you wouldn't be driving around your neighbourhood at full speed waving frantically to your neighbours!:cool2:

That being said, I cannot stress enough the Safety ramifications this represents. Your dealer will need to find and be assured of the failing component(s) and prove such with bench testing and Kubota area reps interaction before I would be satisfied.

surprised no one mentioned turning off the fuel supply lever just ahead of the fuel bowl.

its the same lever you turn off when changing/cleaning bowl or filter.

This sucks...hope all is well. However most engine manuals state to never run at full throttle until 50 hours of use. Man on a new tractor id DEMAND a new unit.

I wouldn't risk having a damaged tractor after buying a new unit.

Good luck. now...wherre is a manual shut off for the solenoid on my Kioti./...i left that book somewheres...

If my tractor did that with 6.5 hours on it I'd get far enough away that I wouldn't get hit by any shrapnel when it blew and call the dealer to come get what was left. I would be expecting them to replace the tractor after that too. Or else give an incredibly long extended warranty. Several years and/or several thousand hours.

I know were the shut off solonoid is but its low and under air filter and there is no way i'm putting my arms anywere near that with engine running, and i checked for a fuel shut off there is none I looked at fuel line from bottom of tank to filter none and from filter to injector pump none,not good for changing filter there should be a shut off in the line from the tank

yeiks.....mine has 2 shutoffs. i thought all tractors had at least 1 to use during servicing.

Yeah, I know. Right in front of the fan, too. I've put my hand there but prefer a screwdriver. These little 'Botas have no 'glass bowl' style water seperator, too. Those always have a shutoff. I was going to change mine on my old BX but never got around to it. You see them on the little Kubota Z482 2cyl engine used often in truck generators that I'm sure would fit where that 2nd canister filter is under the hood.

We always sealed off the air intakes when this happened on the Big Duetz's with air throttles and air shut down solenoids.

After thinking about it more it seems really odd that you had a runaway situation as well as a failed fuel shutoff at the same time. Have you checked the oil to see if it was running on motor oil when it took off?
