Things you forget to maintain.

What are some things people forget to maintain, either from ignorance or forgetfulness?

In my case there are two. The first is from ignorance, which is still no excuse. The oil on the pump side of a power washer. I’m not talking the gas engine on a power washer but the actual water pump side. Yes there is oil in there on most of them and you can change it. I had the pump go out on my Simpson, it had some hours on it and may or may not been from lack of changing the oil but it sure didn’t help.

The second for me is the oil in my air compressor. Some are oil less but mine is not. In my case I’m aware it needs changing I’m just not good about it. A couple of weeks ago I changed the oil in it. It seemed like I had done it recently but it had been several years. No excuse for that either, I have a little note book I write the dates of that stuff down in.

For me it's not that I forget (I wish I could), but there are only so many hours in a day.

I was just thinking about this yesterday. My cheap HF water pump. Sat on a shelf for ten years. Collected dust and moved
around a couple times.
I put some new oil and fresh gas and it's been running a bunch without complaint.
Other then that I am pretty poor at maintenance and usually pay for it some where else.

I use to be on top of everything but no longer the case… equipment often parked or stored which adds up to years in the blink of an eye…

I’m thinking there are projects that just won’t get done anymore…

I just can’t see myself mixing 150 sacks of concrete in a day for a one man pour anymore.

The parked equipment seldom started and run up to temperature where I would religiously do it every 4 to 6 weeks before…

I have neglected my septic tank filter. Probably should pull it and hose it out again. Need to get the tank pumped out too. Been over 4 years now.

I don't fail to maintain stuff, I just put it on the deferred maintenance plan. That list is getting long.

My favorite issue is remembering to add salt to my water softener. It needs to be done about once a month, but isn't consistent about timing.

Greasing the u-joints on the connector shaft and the transmission on the tractor. Hard to get to, out of sight out of mind.
