Oh, and my 3 most used drive up ATM's require me to fold the mirrors in on my SRW pickup to make it through, a dually would likely not be happening.

weird.. none of the drivethru's i go thru with my 350 or 450 requirte me to move my mirrors..

I wouldn't have one for every day driving.

:) i got rid of my half ton dodge specifically to get a drw as a daily driver. so far havn't regretted it. probably will notice it a bit when i do tires.. but that's the cost of DB i guess.. :)

so far my wife is still holding on to her half ton gmc yukon... i asked her if she wanted anything bigger.. and she deffinately didn't.. :) she gets into enough trouble trying to maneuver her yukon.. i'd hate to see her driving a drw crew cab.. :)

as for snow.. can't say.. havn't driven in it in the last few years.. and have only been drw owner for a couple ys.

i don't intentionally do mud either.. though on occasion have to cross mud pits going to my farm.

have been thru with my 2wd f450 and 4wd f350, both drw, my 4wd f250, and me old dodge ram 4x4.. none of them ever got stuck... the wifes yukon 4wd on the other hand.. has been burried to the axles / high centered before :) took me 2 hours to dig us out by hand and put rocks and wood under the tires to get out of there.. )

Is the hitch really a Class V????

<snip>
All I know is that it's a Ford factory hitch with a label that has a 12,500 lb rating and a big "V" on it.
and I thought
Class 5 any trailer hitch with capacity greater than 10000# gross trailer weight and 1000-12000# tongue weight
was the definition for a class V hitch. The door GVWR is 11,500 , which if I remember correctly was the top for the 2002 350 duallie.

I went the opposite way of you. Went from a Chevy 3/4 ton dmax to a half ton Yukon. I don't do a ton of towing, but if I do I still have a F250 and the 4500 to pull. Yukon turns and drives so much better though. I could definitely see myself have a 3500 for a tow vehicle, but for daily drivers I'm kind of sold on SUVs. Handles much better in the snow too with all the wait in the rear...

Hi guys new member!
I have had lots of experiences with gear ratios. To keep the reply short you can
Not or will ever lose with a 4.10 ratio. It is the best all around ratio for everything when it comes to one-h:)alf/3/4 and 1-ton trucks even some above 1-ton. Thanks

The V is just the SAE stamp, not the class. What your Ford has is a class IV hitch.

The GVWR has noting to do with the hitch. For example they put the same hitch on all new 3/4 ton GM trucks that is rated at 13,000#. Some are rated at that but the vast majority are not. Same hitch on all new F150's also but some are rated to tow 6000# more than others. Its all how its equipped.

Your 11,500# gvwr means nothing more than that's the weight that can be on the trucks wheels when rolling across a scale. My 06 F350 SRW 4x4 is also equipped with the 11,500# package.

I agree to a point. Gas, yes 4.10. 1/2 ton 3.73 is a good fit. I had a 99 4.10 F150 that was a beast.

Diesel SRW the 3.73 seems like a good combo to me. Diesel dually 4.10 or 4.30. Most new stuff with SRW and a diesel 3.73 is the deepest option.

I have owned well over a dozen trucks and this is what has worked for me towing right at max levels.

I too have a 2010 2.5" off a dually on my 2001 srw F-350. We've tested the tongue weight a bit! I believe the truck is on the bumpstops in the pic, something like 16,000-20,000 lbs of hay and trailer (325 ish 45 lb bales + 27 ft trailer). I had 4500 lbs in the bed yesterday and that left 1" before the bumpstops for reference.

I tow almost daily. or at least 2-3 times a week. the loads I need to tow were getting to the extreme edge of my half ton.. i figured if replacing it.. I might as well go whole hog and get the drw. 1t+

I have a 3/4t with a 3.73 gear ratio.. and have puleld it all over south east use on loads up to 7k/bumper pull.. it does darn good. there were a couple white knuckle cases in extreme weather.. but not bad. since i wanted a larger trailer anyway.. and to get away from BP and instead go gn.. etc.. that's why I UP-graded. my half ton was a gasser.. and I'm also now sold on diesels.. don't really care to have another gasser pick-em-up truck anymore... though.. when my old 7.3's wear out.. I hope by then there is something in the fuel oil burner cateory that is as equally impressive.

so far.. I'm not seeing anything that blosw smoke up my shorts yet.. :)

yep.. for shooting around town, 3.73 makes it nice.

my 3/4t is 3.73, and has enough oomph behind it with the 6.0psd to make it go even with 7k of trailer on it. my 5.9lgasser dodge just didn't have the same response under that load unfortunately.. ( 3.73 also ).. nor did it have as good of suspension setup, even with a tow package.

my 1.5t with 4.88 well.. she don't go fast.. but handles everything I've hitched to her.. even if I load it really bad and make the weight funny. i absolutely LOVE the airbags.

the 1t with 4.10 seems to be a great compromise.. still have a little tachometer left even on the interstate, and the power is there if needed for most loads.

if I could make 1 truck out of my 350 and 450, and have the 4wd, and 4.10 rear, and all the other goodies from the 450.. I'd be set.. :)
