That video may cause me nightmares!

When I was a boy we had an 8N. We used it for lots of the little tasks instead of the big tractors.
I was getting ready to plow our garden, throttled it up a bit too fast. Let out the clutch and it stood straight up! I was young, and fast enough on the clutch that it sat right back down. I've always said there was another hand in that that day. I had another experience on a Case 750 MANY years later nearly the same.

Made my grandfather a wreck that day though!!

Yeah, my Allis is a '81 and does not have a ROPS. I don't have any steep hill sides to deal with so I didn't worry too much. But the first outing on it with a bush hog I thought I was a goner. I was cutting the grass on the road frontage on the vacant tract adjoining mine. I didn't notice the culvert and the shallow ditch because of the high weeds until I was on top of them. I cut hard to the left to try to pull up on the road but the front of the tractor was a bit light because of the bush hog was set high for the high weeds. It wasn't catching traction and turning fast enough. My thought were "Crap I'm going to turn this thing over on top of me my first time out!!" But by God's providence, my next reaction was to slap the lift control all the way forward dropping the bush hog on the ground. That gave the front the traction it needed and I was able to get around the culvert.

Always walk a foreign area or go slow your first time through. Hopefully to never find a culvert/ditch/hole/debris the hard way.

Sorry to hear about your neighbor. Did he not have the chain hooked to the drawbar?

Sorry to hear also, my truck was in a pond also. But my neighbor pull it out with a case 580 100 hp. using the backhoe. Pull it right out, no contest even. Move the truck around like a rag doll.

Should always walk the area before entering with equipment

Sounds like the proper ballast was not used. If it feels light on the front, weight should have been added.

You never know when someone can come and go, cherish them while you can and be careful as to the tools you're using and always try to find someone to put trust into. You never know when you'll need help, like in a scenario like this.

Amen. We lose too many 'before' their time, whether it be illness, accident, or other. Cherish is the key word here.

As I understand it as he was backing to the truck he let one side ride up on the bank.

Mowing season is on right now so everyone is out zooming around with their zero turn's........with the rops down. Wish I could stop and show them a picture.....

I never said much when I saw people running around with it down. Now I speak up every time if I am around the tractor. It's still their choice but at least I call their hand on it.
