Thinking about a flail mower but wonder if it is worth it for my application

/ Thinking about a flail mower but wonder if it is worth it for my application #21
Im looking at a new TYM 5835R or a Kioti RX7320 and have talked to 4 different dealers and all 4 have told me they don’t recommend flail mowers, they are no good, or how I should get a 8-12’ bush hog.

I’ve also been running bush hogs my whole life. I wonder if these dealers just haven’t experienced using one or it’s because they have bush hogs on their lots they need to sell and would have to order a flail?

Both dealers sell iron craft implements and I want a very heavy duty unit if I buy one. Looks like the BPF-225 is an 87” cutting width and weighs 1700+ lbs. Price is around $8500 which is similar to the price of most 8’ rotary cutters they have priced me.

The property we are buying has been neglected for 10-15 years and has lots of scrub trees and things needing removed. I feel like the flail with the hydraulic shift would be exceptionally convenient for tight spaces and it tucks in so much closer to the back of the tractor. Plus storing would take up substantially less space also. All seem like huge benefits to me.

Another brand I’ve looked at are Nova Tractor. No doubt they are probably Chinese but those things have a wicked looking cutting bar

Don't know their motivation but clearly they have no idea what they are talking about. I wouldn't buy a nut from a nut that told me that. Granted there are certain applications that a flail is not good for but those are few.

UM, the tractor dealers that you have talked to have no idea what they are talking about period!

Pull their hands out of your wallet pocket, they just want your hard earned money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They obviously have never used them, know anything about them or want to sell them as a product.

If your looking at investing in a new mule and a flail mower in a 12 foot width you are looking at a
flail crop shredder that can mow down to a 2" height.

If you have a great number of scrub trees you want to remove you need to decide
whether hiring a forestry mulcher or a small dozer is the better expense as a flail crop
shredder of flail mower will not be heavy enough and you will destroy a perfectly good
crop flail shredder/mower.

If you have a lot of thick weed trees hiring a self propelled forestry mulcher ONCE is a
better option per acre as the mulcher can and will chip the weed trees and dig out the stumps.

If you have pictures of this land you can upload that would help us to help you.

Have you walked this property and asked about hidden well casings or overgrown hidden deep
drainage ditches that could roll a mule over or break an axle?

If your serious about this, you have to decide how much mowing you want to do, what you want
to mow in the time you have to mow, how close are buildings, pasture fences lines, drilled wells,
power poles, roadside ditches and how time you want to spend mowing it.

Side shift flail shredders are fine and have their place but reclaiming scrub land that has not been
managed, cropped or mowed that has second growth weed trees requires a heavier machine like a
small forestry mulcher first.

Owning land is fine but that is dependent on what you are going to do with it in the end.

If you only expect to mow this land once per year those tractors are too small, your better off renting a
row crop tractor locally and buying a heavy flail mower like a three point hitch mounted 15 foot Hiniker
crop flail shredder with a hydraulic trailering wheel package if it is a large property with only road access.
