I had the same problem snow blowing with my 1720 but I really liked my tractor & did not want to take on another payment again for a larger tractor so I managed by constantly using the clutch to avoid stalling the engine on the first full pass down the driveway.
Not wanting to destroy my clutch I was looking into installing creeper gears or adding a turbo.
Then one day I saw the perfect turbo at a swap meet off a SAAB 2.0 and purchased it for $35.
It was a Garrett GT-1752 and appeared to be made for it. Correct exhaust and inlet sizes and clock able.
The majority of the time spent was pondering the installation details. Minimal fabrication was required.
Wet heavy snow that would once stall it is now thrown like powder.
When mowing it normally runs 3~4 psi but will jump to 7~8 psi when heavy grass is encountered.
Govenor response to heavy load is instantaneous.
I don稚 make it a point to run it hard but it will now pull through those momentary situations that would stop it before.
If money was no issue I would have a new 40 hp Kubota Grand L but money is an issue so the turbo was the choice for me and it sounds good with a bit of growl & turbo whistle.
If your 1710 is perfect except for hp you might want to consider it.
