Buying Advice Thinking of buying a used BX2230, need advice

Ok, so there is no "clutch" to depress when engaging or changing the position of the PTO. Just ensure the PTO is in the off position then move the selector then engage the PTO. Hm, must be a linkage adjustment needed then to engage both mid and back. Not that I'll ever use it that way.

No external clutch on the BX, but there is one on the B.

Thanks for clarifying, you can ignore my comments as I was responding based on my 'B' experience thinking they were the same. When I test drove a BX25 I thought it was similar to the 'B', but maybe that one is different than the one in question too, or I'm just getting old :)

Heck, I have "been" old for quite some time.

One thing to check is if the loader is bent. It an be hard to see when not on a perfect level surface, but one easy way to know if ita bent or not is to try to take it off. It should come off pretty easy, but if you have try 'pry it off' it is probably bent. The loader on my dad bx was rasy tu put on / take off, but he kinf os abused the little horse and now, it s hard to put it on, and we need a pry bar to take ir off, we need to have a closer look at this....

Thanks, will check that out.

Hey, can I replace just the bucket with a larger version? Looks like 1/4 yd and I'd like to use 1/3 yd for bark.

You can get a bucket expander from bxpanded.

I just scanned this thread... I'm not sure the concern about the 'grinding' noise from the PTO was addressed sufficiently.
This unit shouldn't be any different than my BX24 in that regard, so I'm thinking that the noise did not come from anywhere but INSIDE the gear case...
I understand the rarity of needing to operate mid and rear PTOs at the same time, but in my mind there must be something not quite right there, just waiting to rear its ugly head sometime later. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

What if anything is connected to the mid & rear PTO shafts ?

Pete

This makes me nervous. I don't want to buy a headache.

Darren,
If you want a backhoe, look at the bx25. Looks like a good price on the bx, I saw it on Craigslist too.
