Thinking of getting an old truck

I love my crew cab with 5.5' bed. I can haul 8 foot long lumber easily in it. Longer stuff, I just hook up the trailer. I prefer the washable bed of a pickup rather than inside a SUV to haul stuff like fertilizer, potting soil, etc because you invariably get a leaking bag and it is a bear to get it out of carpet in the SUV. I don't have any need to haul 9 or more people, if I did then I would take two cars or charter a Trailways bus. AS for towing, I think either a PU or SUV would tow the same since most SUV's have the same towing as the equivalent sized pickup (example: F150/250 and Excursion)

I also have a crew cab with 5.5' bed. I can put all that cruddy stuff in the back without a worry, and still carry my wife and her pals to town in comfort. For the record, I put on a suit and tie, took the pickup to the car wash, and then took it along with my wife, mother in law, and father in law to a wedding (my daughter). Nobody thought twice about it. I have had 8 - 10 ft material in it often, including 34 sheets of 1/2" sheetrock for the ceiling in the shop. After decades of pounding along in heavier pickups, I wonder why I did not figure this out earlier.

I agree. Although mine is an F250 with fold down GN ball. So it also serves to pull my heavy trailer if needed. :)

Another vote for the old F250. I have a 99 crew cab long bed with 6 speed manual and the 7.3. LOVE the old girl. Not recommended for daily driver due to turning radius and general trucky-ness. Choosing a V10 Ford might get you a truck with lower miles and a newer model year for the same money. I paid about 13 grand for mine in 2015 with 106K miles on it. Needed some cosmetic paint work on the bed, shocks, clutch, ball joints, 2 new calipers. Worth it to me and should be set for a while. Unless it has 250k on it, expect a truck at that price to need a few dollars to get to 100%.

I prefer my F250 over my F350... both extended cabs, but 250 is shortbed and manual trans, 350 is Auto and 9' Utility bed. Utility bed is nice to have for tools, but daily driving and towing, I'll take the 250 every time. Short enough to handle easy, room for a few kids, fun to drive (stick shift, straight piped and chipped!). Dually is straight piped and chipped too but...

Thanks for the feedback. I keep looking at this one now: 21 7.3 Diesel F25 LXT

The only trouble is the price. It seems like he's about $4k high. To be honest, I can afford it but I don't want to feel like I was a dumb shopper.

What do you think? Too much money?

It looks nice, but definitely overpriced. IIRC my Brother bought his 2001 F250 with 150k miles XLT, extended cab, auto, almost 3 years ago for 17k. so based on that, this pickup should be worth more like 11k imo.

I think it's too much for the miles on it. I also can't do cloth seats. But that's the favorite front seat design, can't remember what they call it. You can fold up the center console and seat 3 in the front. Mine is equipped with it. My Son's is Captain Chairs. Center doesn't fold up, only seats 2.

Looking again, it has fender flares just on one side of the pickup?

That is weird about the flares.

Anything over 200k I would have a hard buying at 10 grand or more. The engine may be fine the but the rest of the truck will nickel and dime you.

I didn't notice that. I'd guess that the "no flare" picture is older.
