Seems to me that most of the troubles that affect the gas powered pt's are due to heat issues. My thinking is that if these machines had flat fenders over the rear wheels like the old jeeps, then these "platforms" could be used to hold the battery and a tool box on one side and the gas tank on the other. I would remove or modify the hood so that the exhaust could be directed up and to the rear. The cooling fan would also have to be dealt with but why not direct the heat under the operator seat in the winter. With these mods most of the normal maintenance would be so much easier as well. I'm going to proceed this winter any thoughts?

I use mine in the woods and want everything protected. I think fenders would hang up on vines and branches, too.

I would not want a battery cable out where it could be snagged by anything, anything at all. The potential consequences could be very serious, everything from fire to acid splash.

If you do proceed with this, I would suggest getting a covered battery box from a boating store and using heavy straps to hold it and its lid down. Lash the cables at all points so that they can't be torn free.

Of course if you have no trees or other potential grabby things on your property.........no, I still wouldn't want it exposed.

PAH,
In your area do you have to worry about saltwater?
