Gathering firewood is a woman's job in that culture. Her husband isn't in the picture. It looks like those drilled plates below the drivers seat night be for attaching implements. Notice the lever to the left of tbe driver's seat. For raising the implements? No kidding. I don't think that thing even has fenders. India is different - many people don't seem to value even their own lives. On one day trip from Delhi down to the Taj Mahal we saw a dead motorcyclist, an overturned bus, heavy freeway traffic on the wrong side of the center divider with no warning to oncoming high speed traffic (the detour around the motorcyclist who stalled when he tried to cross the freeway), and far to many close calls. You could take pictures like that photo all day.
Calrec - is that guy gathering firewood? Why doesn't he have a larger cargo area if that is what he is doing? And - is that a 'standard' model tractor or something he cobbled together? Does he use it for pulling a disc, or what? I can see it is a portable maize mill but I'm not clear about the tractor aspect.
I'll ask my coworker if he knows more about the machine. Also will query my missionary sister in Kenya to see if she's seen these up there.
