Yanmar 1510
I just acquired a Yanmar 1510. Rear hydraulics not working so drained the fluid. It is very milky so appears to have water in it. Then I notice the fill cap has a hole going through it. I could imagine there might have been some type of upper piece that allowed the hydraulics to vent but this just lets rain water right in. Is part of the cap missing or is it supposed to be like this?

Suspect missing the breather part of the vent but not certain how Yanmar made that part

Welcome to TBN!

Yes, that part generally has a plastic over piece (outer cap) to prevent water from getting in.

Was there any rust or clumps when you drained the fluid? Did you clean the hydraulic pump intake screen? It often clogs after water has been in the system for a bit.

All the best,

Peter

Rice patty water was my guess. The bottom of my Hyd. Oil pan had at least a inch or so of dirty super nasty Hyd. fluid. Thick as Crisco! What it looked like to. Had to replace my Screen or it was best I replaced it.

Definitely looks like it was a 2 piece cap and the outer shell is missing, though a quick google didnt bring up a pic of it.

the only thing I came up with was the strainer cover 186,1510 IP-4300. Does this look like it might work?

After looking at the pic and the open threaded hole just below it. That should be a vent tube. Normal esp. in between the lift arms.

its clearly missing a piece simply based on the uv damage on the outside and not the inside.

Thanks for the comments. Any of you fellas with a 1510 that could send me a photo of what that cap is supposed to look like. I would appreciate it. I’m not finding the part anywhere online. Not sure if it is a solid cap or a breather type cap.

I would bet its vented. You might be able to get NAPA or Farm Store to try and match it, at least in fit. Try JD dealers as well as they always seem to be able to get oddball parts.
