Really amazing! Wonder how long that took; looks like a combination of patriotism, time, and skill.

Great to see the creativity of some Americans. This same technique is quiding our bombs and missiles into Iraq targets.
The sobering thought is that the same technology is likely in the hands of potential and future 'enemies' to direct things at us.
Maybe some early intelligent control of the satelite beams sending and recieving from space to the GPS receivers is the future control of the world (hopefully for peace). Star wars, here we come!?

and here's the rest of the story - straight from snopes. It's last year's field, and he did it all in ONE DAY!!
Wonder what this year's maze will look like? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I believe the military has the ability to disable the GPS satellite system at will as it was developed for military purposes. I am not sure if they can shut it down "regionally" or if it has to go down "globally". I would assume they can disable each "bird" individually, thus allowing regional shut-down of the GPS system.

Does anyone know for sure?

For those interested in how GPS works, here's an overview of the system. I don't believe it gets into any details about being able to selectively activate or de-activate it. GPS Overview

Still, it's amazing technology.

Here's a very detailed (but understandable) faq discussion on the military's ability to control the gps system. Let's just say "they're on top of it". /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks for that site (FAQ paper). Very well explained and understandable. Comforting too. But still sobering, when thinking of the investment it will take to keep up in the future.
