I was greasing my BH and the grease fitting all the way down on the boom snapped off when I was pulling off the grease gun. It broke at the thread so there is no way to put it back in without getting the broken threaded piece out. I can try and drill it out with a special bit (that never works) but there is a tiny hose I noticed still there that went inside the grease fitting. Any words of wisdom? Thanks in advance. Scott

Left hand drill -- maybe $15 for a whole set at HF.

Then an easy out, but I bet the drill will be enough.

Worst case scenario if the other ideas don't work(which they should), you can drill it out and put a heli-coil in there. I don't know what the thread is off the top of my head, but a quick Google search ought to turn something up.

Try using the tang of a file that fits the opening on the fitting . Give it a light tap to seat it ,then just turn out the old zerk .

I had one of my zerks do this. Went to Lowes and got the screw extractor bit set. Put extractor bit in drill put it in hole and zip, the remaining piece of zerk was on the end of the bit extractor. I've used the extractor bits before and they work great. Sears also sells them.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'll give it a try this weekend.

There are two reasons why threaded items get stuck, one is rusted in place, and often every technique except drilling it out won't work. Most likely the bolt broke off because of the threads being badly rusted in stuck.

The second reason something threaded gets stuck is because some kind of blow or force broke it off. The threaded item isn't really stuck at all.

My point is that your case is most likely the second one I mention, and I bet that just about any of the above mentioned techniques work to get the zerk out.

Not the first!!! I did the exact same thing. I am an aircraft mechanic and know all too well how to get out broken and stripped screws, bolts etc. I could not get mine out and had to buy a new pin for $40+....ouch!!

I now grease every fiting on my tractor with a high pressure nozzle to prevent that from happening again.

pull out that tiny "hose". Its probably the spring that seats the ball in the tip of the grease fitting.
