Season's open... They taste real good if you marinate them overnite in a 5th of Wild Turkey whiskey, a cup of rock salt, and enough water to cover. It's enough to make you never want domestic butterballs again... 'Course, Tom's are the tak for spring of course...

Y'all gotta move or pick the right plants. It's been getting weather like that in your part for thousands of years. I don't think Mother Nature is taking exception for what you plant /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Have you checked out the Eastern version of the Sunset Western Garden book? If it is any where near as good as the Western Garden book, it should near be you planting book of proportions for which only one other book on earthe has been written...

.....if you went born there, you can't be a native no matter how hard you work on developing your Southern accent!

Too true. You 'kin git purty close, tho...around here, natives are known as "Crackers" because their ancestors drove cattle across the state to be shipped North, and their long whips made a cracking sound. After almost 32 years, my Cracker friends have deigned to call me a "Yankee Cracker". Kinda like, "He ain't awl thet bad fer bein' a Yankee..."

'Course, when they find out I don't hunt or fish, they shake their heads a bit. I can make it right by showing up at the 1/4 mile dirt track on a Saturday night...and I don't wax my tractor.

I can resemble that remark Don. The natives, I'm one of those Texans that wasn't born here but got here as soon as I could, will explain me to others with "he's from California." As if they couldn't tell, fast talkin' hard workin' good lookin' just a gettin', and not conceited either. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

All of the plants that I have had problems with came from a local nursery and were all tagged as being proper for the climate zone that I live in. Some of the plants (Rhododendrons) that I have lost have been in the ground here for as long as 8 years. This winter and the winter before have been 2 of the coldest winters we have had in decades. Without much snow cover, the frost gets further down into the ground and when it gets bitter cold and the wind chill drops to the negative numbers it takes all the moisture out of everything. I know what the caused the loss of these plants, but there is nothing that I can do about it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Me, too. Of course my granddaddy was born at Bowie, TX, but the family moved to Indian Territory in a covered wagon when he was 5 years old. So I was born up there, but got back to Texas when I was 16. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Frank,
The attached picture is what I woke up to this morning. I don't think snow removal attachments sell to good here in Maui /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Frank, I'll think of you this afternoon as I hoist my daily Mai Tai! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif (2 more days and then back to the Pacific Northwest)

Greg
