Thank you all for your advise and patience as I went through the process of deciding what equipment best suits my needs.

I went back to the dealer where I originally purchased my BX2200 in March of last year. The original cost was:

BX2200 with 60" MMM=$9,975
LA211 FEL=$2,320
Tuffline BB=$450
TOTAL=$12,745

The tractor is a creampuff with 82 hours and the trade allowance they want to give for everything is $8,900!!!!!

If this is how Kubota retains value, I want no part of owning a Kubota EVER AGAIN.

When I did the 50 hour service I went to this dealer for fluids and filters. I found out the tractor had been delivered filled with JD hydraulic oil. This dealer WOULD NOT EVEN ORDER KUBOTA SUPER UDT FOR ME. They said thay JD fluid would not void the warranty, and they did not want to order a pallet of Kubota fluid. I had to drive 40 miles to another dealer to get Super UDT for the 50 hour service.

I gave this dealer a chance to redeem themselves and I feel they tried to screw me for every cent they could.

I would also like to know the policy for naming dealers on this forum. I think people should know how they will be treated by this dealer after the sale.

If you Kabota reps are listening, I am seriously considering going with another make of tractor after this. Kubota orange has left me with a very sour taste.

P.S. I am forwarding this post to the Customer Satisfaction-Contact Form on the Kubota website.

Kubota resale value is a lot different than trade-in value. Maybe you could get what you think it's worth in a private sale. I know any vehicle will have a much lower trade-in value than what people expect to get for it when they buy a new one. The dealer will put a few hours labor into it to get ready to sell, then THEY'LL get market value for it. They're not going to give you what they are going to sell it for.

Just my 2 cents........

Obviously not, but 4 grand??
A few hours labor? not a chance.

Inspector is right. The dealer is only going to give you wholesale, so that he can make a profit. That is what he is in business for, after all. Plus, you find that tractors are like cars, the fastest depreciation occurs when you take delivery, then it holds up well after that.

Those figures don't sound bad to me as, you can't compare what you pay for a tractor to what the dealer would give you for it on trade.

4Grand difference, but also a year old and not the BX2230 either. The BX2200 is listed on Kubota's website as a "Prior Model".

If you go out to the auto valuation websites, you will be able to get a Dealer Retail, a Private Party, and a Trade-In value for a used car. Ususally about 10% difference for each level. I would say the same values apply to used tractors. That 30% drop in value you are seeing is about right, going from new to dealer used, to private party, to trade-in.

I have to say that I have never been pleased with the trade-in offered on any vehicle I have owned. Sometimes I took it, sometimes I didn't, but I don't recall ever being outraged with the dealer because of their offer.

Look, this would be no different with anything like this. A dealer cannot sell a nearly new tractor like he can a new one. The new ones often have special financing and incentives, used units rarely do. What about the warranty issues a new buyer will consider when he looks at your used tractor and a new one.
Apparently people do not understand that resale value years down the road when your Kubota/JD/Kioti, NH (is that PC enough?) may well bring it's full sale value--10 or 15 years along the way--if well maintanied vs trying to trade one nearly new tractor for a new one. it just does not work that way. A buyer will have to pay more down, possibly arrange his own finacing etc.
You should try a private sell or try another dealer--not nesacarily a Kubota dealer---and see what they can do for you. All these tractors despite the purty color differences really are pretty equal overall so maybe try a NH dealer and see what he says. Most likely they are going on the same book value--loan value. You may find a dealer with a unit he needs to unload or who is needing to make a sell and he may have the incentive to cut you a better price.
This trading thing is always a nightmare, he gives you more for trade and tacks it onto the new units price. Maybe if you got a new tractor and also bought some implements along with it for the dealer to better spread (absorb) the costs to him and to you. The "deal" has to benefit both partys ya'know. J

Maybe I just have a chip on my shoulder with this dealer.
Kubotas ever-changing models seems to be their way of assuring percieved obsolescence.

I believe that you misunderstood what they were saying. They use JD fluids for the 50 hour service and do not stock Kubota fluids. This is common in many dual tractor brand dealerships to stock only one brand of oils. In most cases, it will not void warranty's either. Your tractor came from the factory filled with Kubota branded fluids and should have had them in it up till the 50 hour service unless they were changed for some reason by the dealer doing a service procedure on the tractor, or some catastrophic fluid loss.
As to the value of the tractor for trade in purposes, I don't think that the dealership is treating you unfairly. Read my post about values along with others here. The situation is similiar to yours about price that is... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Even companies that make toasters change models frequently. If you don't like model changes, I suggest that you purchase a horse or mule next time. Those models haven't changed in centuries. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
