I'm not sure this is true. I recently swapped some e-mails with a Kubota factory rep that lead me to believe that they might be delivered to the dealer "dry" - post

Metlergy,

Yes, trading something in that quickly almost always results in what you experienced. Not good, but also not unexpected. Taken by itself, that wouldn't be enough to make me upset with the dealer.

With a private sale you should be able to do at least $1500 better in my unqualified opinion.

I also wouldn't have a problem using JD fluids in my Kubota tractor. I happen to use Kubota hydraulic oil, but I also use Case motor oil rated for diesels. No problem here, I think.

But heck, you are the only one whose met the dealer face to face. If you don't care the way they do business, I'd walk.

It's like the other guys said. I know I checked with two Kubota dealers before I did the 50 hour service on my last new Kubota and neither one had any Super UDT. They did have the UDT and said they could order the Super if I wanted, but that they never used it. And one of them even told me they never use the Kubota fluids at all. He said they use all Case oils "because it's cheaper and just as good".

And of course, that first year's depreciation is tough. What percentage would you lose on a new car the same age?

Interesting thread. Which begs the question of where S-UDT is
manufactured, by whom, and to exactly what spec?

I read all the posts - As bad as it seems to you, your situation isn't all that bad, or all that unusual. I guess what I'm trying to say is the depreciation you're seeing isn't unusal - as a matter of fact I'll bet there are other brands & models that take a bigger hit. Cars are no different, even the best ones take a huge hit the first year.

The upside is that it sounds like you have a mint tractor that I know would sell in a heartbeat. Advertise it and I'm sure you'll see at least another $1000 in your pocket - if that hit is still too big then I think you'll have to keep it for a few more years to "soften the blow". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Best of Luck!

Honestly, they made you a very reasonable offer on the trade...in line with what I got for my BX2200 with a few more hours and minus the MMM, which I kept for the BX22. Remember, the dealer has to be able to sell that machine with profit and still be lower than a new machine sells for by some margin.

Relax. It's the dealer/situation not the machine.

( When I did the 50 hour service I went to this dealer for fluids and filters. I found out the tractor had been delivered filled with JD hydraulic oil. This dealer WOULD NOT EVEN ORDER KUBOTA SUPER UDT FOR ME. They said thay JD fluid would not void the warranty, and they did not want to order a pallet of Kubota fluid. I had to drive 40 miles to another dealer to get Super UDT for the 50 hour service.)

If you procrastinated on sending in that little survey Kubota sends out to
new purchase customers, you've found the ideal time to fill it out and tell
them about your Kubota Experience. I'm sure someone would be interested
to find your dealer not only doesn't stock Kubota UDT but refuses to order
it upon customer request. The dealer filling up your machine with JD fluid
and patting it on the head as it leaves for the customer would make for an
even more interesting explanation to the factory rep when warranty claims
arise.

Another point is reality may have not caught up with the dealer (unlikely) or
he isn't volunteering any information. With the price spike of steel in recent
months, I've heard of local dealers adding a surcharge of ~17% across the
board to all new equipment.

Sell it to a private party if you want to get close to what you paid for it. Cars and other vehicles lose the same as soon as they leave the lot. A firearm loses 50-60%.

I was going to buy the BX23 last month. Thank god for my wife!!!!! She said that it just "wasn't enough tractor" for what we need/want to do and (she called it a glorified lawn mower) therefore not worth the money. I got a whole lot more tractor for less money with my CK20.
Sometimes switching brands brings in a much better trade-in price. You may want to try going down that road. Good luck.
