How do you decide between the 4410 and 4710. Affraid I'll get one that too small for serious work (4410) or too big to landscape around the house (4710). Have posted the question and got good response. Still don't know which way too go. Also, can the 4710 be worth $4000.00 extra. Does the slight extra size make it that much harder to manuver in tight quarters? Can a 4410 pull a 5' rotary cutter as well as a 4710 can pull a 6'?

Got within $500.00 of buying Friday! Price I was quoted $28,300.00 on the following:

JD4410 all extras (E-hydro, front rear work lights, 55 amp alt., upgraded cruise, speed match, telescope hitch, large R4's, Tall folding ROPS)
JD430 FEL with 4-in-1 bucket
JD48 Backhoe with 18" bucket

Hows this price?

Buy the 4710. If you purchase the 4410 you will always wish you had gone after the larger tractor. I believe there are far more poeple who wish they had purcahsed a larger tractor than those who wished they had purchased a smaller one.

There can't be a huge difference in manuverability of one over the other, a look at turning specs for both should answer that question. The wider the wheel base the more stability the tractor will have on uneven ground, that's always a plus.

Good luck

I agree. If you are having that much of a problem deciding I can guarantee you aren't going to be happy with the 4410 no matter how well if performs.

I think you will learn how to manuever that 4710 just fine after a little practice. GO for the bigger machine. When my wife brought home her 4200 she thought it was going to be too big. The 4200 is a great tractor and it has done a lot of work for us, but she often says she wants a 4610. She calls the 4200 a "cute little tractor" now. She won't give up the 4200 because it runs like a top, she just wants to add to the fleet. GO big first, I don't think you will regret it.

Randy...

I also say, go for the 4710. I'm very pleased with my 4710 but I can see times I with I had even more power with one of the 5000 series models. Only reason I didn't get it was I knew I had tight spaces (ie, old logging trails through dense woods) to negotiate and I didn't think a 5210 or 5220 would negotiate these tight spaces. The 4710 though will. The 4710 isn't all that much bigger than the 4410 but it does pack a few extra HP and has added engine torque that you may be thankful you had.

You'd still be getting the 4710 without the backhoe though, right? Personally, I'd go for the 4410 and the 48 hoe.

If you've got the need for the backhoe, I would get that. If you won't use the hoe that much, by all means get the 4710 and pay for any digging you need.

I had the same questions last year when I was shopping (although I went with NH because the same setup was 3 grand more in green, but that is besides the point, sorry) I decided on the middle sized tractor with the backhoe. To me it seemd a good compromise, not too small to get serious work done but not too big to manuver in tight quarters. I am currently using it to excavate my foundation where water leaks into my basement. Also the middle size frame is easier to trailer around if you want to take it to job sights. I saw the smaller sized ones (4100, 4210) as being too small for serious work. I guess it depends on what tasks you have planned.

Thanks for the input everyone,

Pulled trigger today signed PO on 4710 ehydro with 460 FEL w/ 4-in-1 bucket. Also got the MX6 Rotary Cutter. No BH, I may regret it but sometimes you've got to *&%$ or get off the pot.

Started the day at 4410 w/ hoe then moved up to 4710 with hoe then moved up to 110. It's amazing while you are thinking well it's just a few more dollars to upgrade until you jump too far.

AuCivil,

I have a 4700, 460 with 4n1, MX6 and the JD48.

Getting the 4700 to manouver tain't an issue. I have mine in
tight spots all the time. Not a problem as long as you go
SLOW.

If you need a 4n1 then I think you might need the larger FEL.
That 4n1 bucket weighs some but it is worth it. You need the
stronger FEL to offset the 4n1. But you wont worry about
busting your 4n1 bucket either.

If you have back hoe work well, that is a compromise you
have to make. On the other hand if you have serious hoe
work to do you might be better off renting a larger machine.
There have been times where I really needed a large backhoe
but I made due with what I had.

If you don't know this yet you soon will. Time is money and
money is time. Since I don't have the money to rent/buy a
larger backhoe I spend the time digging with what I have.
It just takes longer. I have come close to NOT being able
to get a job done but I have always finished. But I have been
close to the capacity of the tractor. I don't really have time
or money but its easier to make time than money. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Once I get my photo CD back I'm going to be posting some
pictures of the 600 foot driveway I'm building. Last week
my tractor, 4n1 FEL, and boxblade move about 176 TONS
of ABC. Did one heck of a job. I really did not think I could
keep up with the dump truck but I could.

The setup your getting can really so some work. And the
4n1 makes a huge difference....

I bought a 4700 with a 460 loader and 48 BH earlier this year. I was leaning towards a 4310 with the 430 loader and 48 BH but I was able to get the 4700 package for only $2000 more. If anything I wish it was bigger and heavier. I would go with the 4710 if it were me.
